New CC Cobra owner

I am new to this forum. I have wanted a Contemporary Classics Cobra for many years. I still have the brochure they sent me when they were still open. I have just purchased this CC cobra ebay listing 151004515378. It belonged to the owner of the Lexus dealership. He told me the car was turnkey from the factory in 1980. It has a serial number of 18. What do you guys think? Thanks for looking.

Hi welcome, I also have a very early CCX . I bought it at the factory at 5-7 Tecumseh ave Mt Vernon NY in late 1980. When I was talking to Peter Bayer and Montti Gotti when I was picking the car up asked them how many cars they have done.? Mine was #102 So I asked if they had done 102 cars or 2 cars? Peter was a guy you could never get a straight answer from and told me somewhere in between. But talking to Montti they started at 100 and the first few were more like prototypes. They then they switched to a dating system for the serial number then went to a CCX# system. So #18 I don't know where you got that number but there is probably some more numbers on the frame. look on the frame on the drivers side up by the front suspension. Good luck and welcome. I saw your car on Ebay she is a beauty.

There is a plate with the number 18 in the engine compartment. No prefixes, just the number 18.

That plate was pit on by somebody not the factory. Look up behind the dash against the firewall. There should be a silver sticker with the body number on it and look on the main frame tube on the drivers side by front suspension for the serial number. It would be something like 090880 or something with CCX3045 something like that.

my CCX starts with 33, not sure what that means :)

Congrats and welcome aboard. I put some frame stamping info here http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/cont...history-3.html
I can't believe with all the undercarriage shots I couldn't find any of the motor??
It's a little high in the back, I'd set it down a tad. Be careful on the TA radials and with those Jag brakes.
Do you have a manual for the car? Shoot me an e-mail and I can send it to you if you want it and some other CCX paperwork.

Grubby 03-10-2013 02:43 PM

That looks like a VIN assigned by the state.

Apprently asmb stands for assembled, as per the dealer.

Congratulations and welcome to the craziness. I don't know anything about your car but I make one comment. The minute you think you are in control, watch out because you're in trouble. Lose respect for the car and it will bite you. It's also more fun than you should be allowed with your clothes on.

I just found the car in the ad. what a beautiful color. What a beautiful car!

Nice ride. Get rid of those tires.

alzo6 03-13-2013 10:24 PM

Thank you all for the advice. I learned my lesson a long time ago. My first Pantera, too much gas in first, tires broke loose, spun around and hit a tree and a telephone pole. Luckily very minor injuries. I know those are not very good tires, they came with my 69 427 Corvette, they are only s rated. How do you lower the rear, do you cut the springs? I spoke with the dealer today, they found some paperwork showing the car had belonged to Chyrsler corporation. Photos of the interior can be seen if you click on view all on the bottom of listing.
