Fuel Pump

My Barry Grant fuel pump finally died (seized on the way to a cars and coffee get together), changed to a Magnafuel pump. The Magnafuel pump was a little smaller than the BG unit and replacement was fairly straight forward with a few snags on the way. Apparently when the BG pump seized it melted a couple of relay wires in the junction box I have installed in the trunk. one little issue arose after installation and test driving that came up, taking the car out for a 40 mile test loop it seems the pump just coouldn't keep up with demand, I was turning 3000 rpm's in 5th gear just cruising (5th gear is 1-1 and doing just over 80) the car started to feel like it was going to run out of gas, letting up on the gas the pump refilled the bowls and the motor kept running, as long as I kept it under 3g's there was no problem. What I noticed inside the junction box are three gold resistors each are 1.5 ohms, I think these are step downs to protect the pump, anuone have experiance with BG set ups that shed some light on what they are used for?
