Ididit dimmer relay

Has anyone installed the Ididit dimmer switch for headlights? I’m trying to figure out the wiring so I can get my high beams to work with the VW turn signal lever. Thanks!

If you're using a VW turn signal, then use a VW latching relay as well. Piece of cake and you can flash to pass as well. Start here: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/era-...utes-less.html and just follow the threads. The wiring theory for the headlights is the traditional "always hot" feed to the headlight switch that then feeds the relay that then sends the output to either a low beam fuse or a high beam fuse that goes from there to the filament in the bulb.

I have the VW turn signal and relay. I can see how I can wire it to flash to pass but not where to get power or switch for high beams.

Yes, I see your problem and there's not enough info in my threads to do a wiring job from scratch. But it's pretty easy to wire and we'll use a schematic that also shows the blinker and the little green light on the dash. But first let me ask you this: Do your rear lights have separate filaments for the brake and turn signals or do they share the same filament? If you are sharing the filament then we can do something like ERA does to split them. If you have separate filaments then we'll do something like VW did.

Here's How to Do It

Here, let me post this while the site is up. It goes up and down so much that back and forth advice is tricky. The wiring for your turn signal switch, and your headlight relay, will follow the wiring schematic theme of the 1966/67 VW Beetle. ERA uses that same basic wiring scheme as well, but since most of our Cobras, including ERAs, have a rear brake light and turn light that share the same filament, you must go an extra step to deal with that (because sometimes you have your turn signal on while you are braking). The VWs had separate brake and turn signal bulbs so they did not have to deal with that little issue. The way ERA does it is with a traditional five wire "trailer relay." The three input wires for that relay are for brake, left turn and right turn. The two output wires are to the right side rear bulb and the left side rear bulb. That's it; piece of cake. If your rear lights share a filament between your brakes and your turn signals then wire it up just like ERA does and just glance at the 1966/67 VW Beetle wiring to raise your comfort level. Here are the links to help you:

Thanks Pat. Site has been down and just getting back in. My car does share a filament for brakes/turn. I will look at the links you shared! Thanks again.

Then I would wire it just like the ERA schematic in the second link. It's straight forward and hasn't given me a hiccup in almost 20 years.
