Rear Dech Bulkhead thickness
Does anyone know how thick the rear bulk head between the trunk an the cabin is? Is it a two piece section like the SuperPerformance cars? Has anyone mounted a fire extinguisher centered on that bulkhead between the two seats? If so, did you rivet, bolt or use a sheet metal type screw ?

I'm going to tell you it's at least 3/16" thick more like 1/4" and stout as can be. I would put a plate or fender washers on the other side to spread the load and mount away.

Hey Ralph, I remember seeing the cockpit moulded seperately and then glassed into the body while it was still in the body mould. Everett Morrisons process is very similar. I'm saying single layer but strong due to, thickness, glass quality and cockpit shape.

I drilled a 32nd pilot hole for the bottom of the bracket. I linked together 3 pieces of copper strand and it went in about 5 inches before it hit something solid. I drilled the pilot hole approx. 61/2 inches from the top of the console tunnel. Thats why I was thinking it was made up of two pieces with a hollow center. The only other thing I can think of is that I went a bit low and I am hitting the chassis or something. I looked underneath, but didn't see any thing sticking through. Ralph |

The height for the bottom hole of the mounting bracket is 8 3/4 inches from the top of the transmission tunnel. I used 8-32 s/s bolts, washers and nylon lock nuts (all s/s). You can use 1/8" x 1" rivets as well along with s/s washers on each side. Ralph |
That's a pretty small screw. If they're stainless and there's a few of them I'm sure it'll be fine. The bulkhead is a single layer that separates the trunk and cockpit. If you are too low then you'll be into the space under the trunk floor.

Streetrod.. As this illustrates, it can be done. It was mounted with 1/4" screws, nuts and washers..

Thanks for the input. I installed mine about 2 weeks ago. Same install as you have in the photo....I solved that but now have a heat problem in 90+ degree temperatures. I'm thinking of increasing cfm of electric fan (may change to a Spal type with high performance rating) Problem at stop lights with temperature increase to 200 +. Ralph |
