Electrical Question for Contemporary Owners
How does your wiring harness transit your cockpit and into your trunk? Mine comes down along the floor to wall seam by the drivers left foot, leg and hip, below the door. It was kind of stuck in there with this black goop, kind of like a real sticky silly putty. Then, (and here is the part I don't like and am looking to change) it bends around along the seam where the floor meets the rear bulkhead until it gets about 6 inches or so inboard of the sidewall, sort of behind the left hip of the driver. A hole is drilled in the rear bulkhead about 1/4" above the floor, and the wire passes OUTSIDE the car, and goes straight up into the extreme front left corner of the trunk and enters there. I don't like the idea of the harness being outside the trunk, just inboard of the rotating wheel. Does anyone have any other ideas or have a different setup in their car? As Ed just demonstrated to me on my build thread, sometimes the answer is staring you right in the face and you just don't see it! Thanks.

I have a Butler, so my body may be a little different to yours, but with the same problem. The harness travels along the same area under the the door sill and up the back bulkhead. I cut a slot high in the bulkhead, directly into the trunk about 1" wide and 3/8" high. Then I flattened out the harness to make it into a ribbon wire so it's flat and is concealed under the bulkhead carpet. I would have preferred some great flat male-female bulkhead plug to do this with, but everything would be bulky and hard to hide. Chamfer the slot you make to prevent a sharp fiberglass edge from attacking the wire insulation. Easy way to make the ribbon is to spread out about 3 to 4 feet of some clear 2" wide box/packaging tape on a flat surface and tape the two ends to the flat surface (work bench). Then stick the wires to the tape to form a ribbon of wires. Then wrap the ribbon with the extra width of the tape. All the wires side by side are say 3/4" and tape is 2" wide, so fold remeining 5/8" of tape over each side. Then repeat the wrapping with another layer of box tape again by flipping over your ribbon. Doug , just checked mine the wires run down the front left hoop bar and along the floor against the side wall and around to the back bulk head then up the bulk head about half way up the back of the seat and then thru the bulk head and into the trunk.The same process was done here as the plug was removed so a smaller hole could be used the the plug reinstalled.hope this helps.
