Ford has pretty deep pockets - they don't want to lose money on any vehicle, but they can lose a lot on each GT and not really feel it because the GT was produced in such low volumes.

The resurrected T-Bird was a disaster. The retro styling did not resonate with buyers and they were asking WAY too much money for it. I don't believe they had any aspirations of taking sales away from the Corvette - the T-Bird was in a completely different category. Sure, they both had two seats and front engine / RWD powertrains, but the similarities end there. The Bird was a cruiser, the Corvette a sports car - even if many of them are driven as cruisers by octagenarians.
