Coil-over or Leaf Spring
I've toyed with the idea of building a coupe. Did any of them incorporate a coil-over suspension (even the McClusky continuation cars) or were they all leaf spring?
I am assuming all were modified 2000 series frames meaning 3" tubes? Paul |
There was a Super Coupe started on a 427 chassis. I will have to look that up and see if it ever got finished.

Often wondered if the leaf springs were the same as or similar to the Triumph Herald rears in eye to eye length. Think the Triumphs were first built around 1959/60 or so. Three versions, coupe, sedan & wagon, I know the wagons had about 4 more leaves, guess I will just have to check some out.

Just a quick recollection tells me 7 leaves rear, 10 front about 39" eye to eye. That Super Coupe did get finished out nicely. http://www.supercars.net/cars/3187.html

T-Leaf is the way to go!

Are you thinking of building a coupe from scratch Paul?
For me, it would have to be as close to original as possible... like that's a suprise! Larry |
Good Question,
I owned a coil over FFR Daytona replica and it was very good driver and comfortable. It is destined to come back into my garage at some point in the future. there are pics in my gallery. Here is a link to a scratch built all Aluminum Daytona with a huge amount of detail: http://home.comcast.net/~chuckcobra/...ex_daytona.htm I have read it many times and had a very minor role in the process but, when I opened it got captured again by the sequential tour.......a really good read. My buddy Chuck drives it to the BACC breakfast some times. BTW he started with the windshield and built it from there. He is in the midst of building a new motor for it with webers. Tony R. |
Only 'original' coupe built on the 'Coil spring' chassis was the 427 Super Coupe Mick has posted info on above... that was to have been a '390', not a 427 as it is now .
The other '390' was leaf spring chassis 2286? which had its chassis extended 3" to accept it, but circumstances meant it never raced before being returned to original wheelbase/289 use. Not sure of the other '390' car mentioned in Shelbys Wildlife book, think it was a english chassis & might be the one in 'museum' as yet uncompleted. |
