Thinking of getting a HDR Daytona...
for street use and would like some feedback on the car and the company.
So far I am impressed with the car and company after talking with the owner and reviewing the web site. Any info would be great. Thank you. |
I have heard nothing but good things about the company and the owner.
A fellow in this forum apparently investigated the Daytona they make and he raved about the quality and engineering of the chassis. |
They are noisy, hard to get into and out of, they get hot inside them, rear visability kind sucks. That is with all daytona coupes, not just the HDR version. They just don't have the same apeal as a cobra roadster. That said, don't ever write a check for a car that you haven't driven personally. If you are really interested, go see one in person and drive it, only you can decide. As for the HDR specifically, Rick hasn't made very many, I think he still has some polishing to do on it. The silver one in his adds was painted by the same guy that painted my car.

Rick told me he has built 16 coupes and 4 roadsters to date.
And he has 4 cars he is building currently. I am looking at the roadster as well. I am impressed with the performance#'s and the fact they offer a warranty. I don't mind the noise or the heat as I drive a modified 96 Viper GTS and also a highly modded 69 Z28. Thanks for the info so far! |
I used to daily drive a hot-rodded 69 camaro, it was a cadillac compared to a daytona coupe. Most TKM cobra manufacturers offer a warantee.

Mr.FixIt -
You should check out the Superformance-Brock Coupe. It addresses most of your compaints about the Daytona Coupe. Best Regards. Steve |
Noisy? Can't be any more noisy than my Cobra. :) I don't think any of these types of cars are good grocery getters, and the appeal to me would be that it is rough, loud, mean, etc....If you're looking for comfort, there are better cars for that. If you want raw racing car on the street, how could you go wrong?
As for HDR, I would have to agree that they look to have a really nice product. I would suggest talking with some of the other buyers to see how everything matches with your expectations. The warranty seems like a nice touch for a completed car. Let us know more as you learn more. |
I have learned that HDR does insulate between the foor and firewall so heat is reduced a lot and the coupe does have an A/C option as well. I like the coupe for the fact it has a full cage and a roof...I like that idea over a roadster for safety reasons. Now the roadster if you look at the web site...has a different type of roll bar. I like that as well...I got a 10 minute education on it when I talked to Rick.
I for one want the noise and "raw" feeling of a street beast. If I wanted confort..I would buy a Corvette. I have a thread started at my home message board so if you guys want to view it here is the link... http://www.viperalley.com/showflat.p.../o/all/fpart/1 |
