So.. why did Brock choose not to make the sidepipes functional on the SPF Coupe?
This has me puzzled, for sure. God; I do love that car, though!!
I read something about the noise level. But; aren't the 427s really loud, as well? The 289FIA, and the 427s I have heard, are plenty loud. |
Exhaust entry into the car is the biggest concern. There's not much ventilation and the fumes are a problem.
The exhaust actually IS functional through the side pipes. Right at the end of the pipes (which are capped inside) the exhaust continues to the rear. It would be pretty easy to un-cap the side pipes and remove the extra pipes in the rear. Then you got your true "side pipe" exhaust. Ernie |
Thanks for the response, Ernie! That makes sense. I read where the exhaust was routed through there, too. Man! That is a gorgeous car!

The sound inside the car may have been part of the reason .

In reality you can't just uncapped the sidepipes as suggested. You can cap the exit to the back pipes and use a carbide bit to open the sidepipes if you should want, but I would suggest it would deteriorate the driving pleasure. The exhaust has a sweet sound as they are and is quite enjoyable at road speeds. I've heard that they may offer some comp sidepipes for those that want the noise. But it isn't quite as easy as "uncapping" the sidepipes, there are no caps.
