Daytona Coupe Tires
I am thinking about using Salt Flat Specials for the coupe. 15-7 in front and 15-8 in the rear. Any suggestions on what tires to use for both street and track?

Salt Flat Specials will look great on your coupe. I have similar wheels on my Lister that Chuck Beck has made for it by a different company. I am using Dunlop Sport 8000's (Z-rated) on these wheels and they look and handle great so far (only 300 miles). They are a fairly sticky tire so I don't expect them to last 40,000 miles but that's a trade off I am willing to make for the good grip that they have. I would also at least upsize the rear wheels and tires as wide as the car will allow so you can get the widest tire in the back for traction. My Lister has 16"x10" wheels on the back and with 430HP/430lbft it is fairly easy to break them loose.

Dutch, Need4...
I have tried desperately to find super-wide (305x15x60s) tires and they no longer make them!:mad: About the only two tires which fill the bill are Goodyear (etc.) racing tires. These are bias-ply and according to some, not a smooth ride(?!). The other alternative are Mickey Thompsons---again, non-radial and not a known factor (at least by me anyway) when driving on tight and twisty roads.
I really do not want to go with 17" wheels and low profile tires--just a personal preference. Some recent (and some old) posts---the latter being less encouraging---have raised hopes that there may be some 305s coming out in the near future. We'll see! |

Thanks for the ideas for tires. I am staying period correct for the sixties and will stay with the 15" wheels. The Dunlop Sport 8000's do come in both 225 and 245's. Not very inexpensive though. List price being $175,- and $185,- ! A couple of track days and they are gone?
Any other thoughts for a bit more affordable tire that will do the same job for the car well? |
