oil capacity of a Roush 427r
I have coupe #55 with a Roush 427R, what is the oil capacity of this oil pan?. I assume I have one of the early oil pans.

What kind of oil pan is it, Chuck?

Pat , I think it is a pan made just for this car for the Roush motor. It tucks up under the frame rails so it looks pretty shallow. The design is Aviad like however.

There are two pans for the SPF Coupe, the original SPF supplied pan that is shallow and wide (and not terribly good at oil control) used on the early cars and the later Roush supplied pan (which is also used on the GT40 engines) that has a somewhat deeper sump for better oil control. The older style pan would hold about 12 qts including the lines and oil filter. I replaced my older pan but haven't had a chance to drain and fill my new style pan yet so I can't tell you how much it holds, probably around the same but check with Roush if no-one else knows.

my pan on 055 sits at the level of the lowest point of the bell housing, is this a new design or old?

Both pans sit about that level. Your car number is an early one so I would guess that you have the early SPF pan. Look to see if you pan is flat bottomed or if it has a small sump beneath the main floor of the pan. If is entirely flat bottomed, it is the old pan. If it has a bit of sump, it is the newer Roush supplied pan.
