Daytona coupe in FIA historics
Hi there
Any historians out there who know which chassis was raced in the 2004 FIA Historic GT championship? I think it was driven by Larry Miller and Bill Murray. I have a racing sim that lists the car as having a 427. I thought all the original Daytonas had 289s. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks in advance. |
There is a 427 coupe that was not finished in the 60s, but later finished in the 80s. It looks very different than the Daytonas.
There is also a 427 chassis that was fitted with a body by Ghia that looks very different than the Daytonas. One of the Daytonas was being modified with a longer frame to accept a bigger motor in the 60s for LeMans, but another coupe was involved in a transporter accident. The coupe being modified was put back into its original small block configuration. Phil Spector had painted on the side of his Daytona that it had a 427 engine, but that was wrong. I'm sure that the answer to your question is that the Daytona Coupe in question did NOT have a 427 engine in it. |
According to Trevor Legates book Cobra: The First 40 Years it was CSX2300. An FE won't fit in one of the Coupes.

Thanks guys, that's a great help. :)

Larry Miller's Coupe
Hello,
I believe the Daytona Coupe owned by Larry Miller and frequently raced by Bill Murray is in fact serial number CSX 2299. You can verify this by checking the Shelby American Collection website at:www.shelbyamericancollection.com Thanks, Eric |
