tranny id
Hi David!
I was looking for an I.D. tag on my tranny there is not one attached. What set of numbers do I go bye to verify what tranny I have? thanks buddy! |
The tag tells everything. Maybe we can figure out what it is with more information. Get the casting numbers off of the maincase and tailhousing, see if the input is 1 1/16" or 1 3/8", see if the output is 28 or 31 spline, if it has a 1 1/16" input shaft remove the lid and count the teeth on second gear . Also measure the tip of the input shaft to see if it is 1 1/8" or 3/4" long. Tell what you find and I'll tell you what you have.

Thanks as always for the help my friend!
Well here's the info you asked for. 1 3/8 " input 10 spline 3/4" shouldered tip 1 3/8 " output 31 spline tail shaft # DOZR-7AO40-A MAIN CASE# CBAR 7006-W1 On the input shaft there's a collar with a seiral as well #WT2-96-6A . One other question the hurst linkage seem's sloppy due to the keeper springs, it already has the steel bushings but still seems sloppy . have you ever replaced the adjuster ends of the linkage with hiem joints? I'm considering doing this to achieve a more positive adjustment and tighter feel. Good or bad Idea %/ thanks! |
If the input is a factory piece it is a close ratio out of a 70 or early 71 Big Block Mustang. It is 24" long and works great in a 427 Cobra. I have not changed the ends to heim joints but I have seen it done. My Jerico came with heim joints on the linkage, no slop at all.

All of the 24" length close ratio big in and out transmissions were referred to as "Nascar" units.
