5 bolt 289 and automatic tranny
Hello David,
I have a 5 bolt 289 with a four speed. Are there any options for mating this motor to an automatic transmission? Were there any autos with the proper bolt pattern? Thanks. Toughguy :) |
5 Bolt C-4's
Some early Mustangs had C4 automatics with 5 bolt engines. The bellhousing on a C4 is a separate casting, so, if you can find the 5 bolt C4 bellhousing, you can put it on any similar early C4 transmission. They are kind of scarce, but they DO exist.

A place like Art Carr will install a SFI certified bellhousing on a C4 or C6, and I think they may even be able to match an AOD to it,give them a call.It's not cheap, but then you get what you pay for. Perry.:cool: |
Look at Falcons also. The switch over was in 64/65.
