Scott that is a small spline ford top loader 4spd give you a 100.00 for it. just kidding,From the shape it looks like you should take it to trans shop to get inspected before it gets used.

Thanks Bobby, will definetly go to the transmission shop first....everything seems to move smoothly and all the gears appear to be ok...no chips etc...guess it sat for a while...any idea what it comes out of?? nobody seems to know about the RAT E1...its got everyone puzzled to say the least...lol Thanks for the reply....Scotty
Man, that just looks plain weird...look at where 1st gear should be ...it's not there....it looks like you're seeing all of the inner synchro hub, and the reverse gear on the synchro...but 1st gear is gone...
i'll get another one for the inner gears in a moment...it is puzzling though..lol....Thanks again....Scotty
http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/...4203527910.jpg and yet it seems to have the linkages of the four speed??? |
Hey Scott....grab a wrench and move the 1st gear synchro the 2nd gear position....I'd like to see what it looks like...that first gear is killing me...
It actually looks like someone has assembled it without the 1st gear cog itself...that's why the reverse gear on the outer synchro hub is so far to the back...and you can see all the splines on the inner hub. First gear is just completely gone....I can't figure out what the tag on the case means though...it doesn't make sense at all.

will do,give me about 10 minutes,i'm on it...Thanks
One other thing I noticed...how many shifter cams does it have? A normal Toploader will have 3...I only see 2 on the picture above....I may be blind though.
k here they come...will take a couple minutes to get them all up...thanks again..Scotty

Looks like someone left 1st gear out of it...if it is indeed a 4 speed tranny....all the other gears look the same though.
Oh, one other thing I noticed....the 1st/2nd gear synchro shifter ring is backwards....the shifter fork should be on the other side of the reverse gear... |
Well...if it's a 4 speed, there's parts missing, and other parts backwards. If it's a 3-speed, then it looks like 1st gear and reverse are on the same synchronizer...which wouldn't make sense. Plus the lack of another shifter cam throws a wrench into it. Basically, I don't know what it is....You need to get David Kee involved in this. :)

its a ford 3 spd toploader......the same trans ford sold pontiac in mid to late 60's used in lemans & gto.. front housing was cast to mount to GM bellhousing .. pontaic called their toploader a DEARBORN

hehehe....at least someone (not me) knows what they're talking about...I knew it didn't look like a 4-speed....I should get some points for that....hehehe.... :)
Wow,Thanks Ron!! Ford put trans in GM products?? now i'm really confused...lol so will this fit a GM or a Ford or both?....Thanks as well Ron.....This site is great!!!!!
