David Kee 2.87 WR 1st gear????

David
Have you started to offer this gear ratio yet? would it be ok with a 3.07 rear end and 275 60 tires
Many thanks
Adrian

Is anybody using this gear yet in there WR toploader from David?

David Kee 01-05-2005 07:04 PM

It will be done soon and will be a perfect compliment to a 3.07 and higher rear gear.

The new 2.87 first gears will be ready in a few weeks.

David ,What happens to the performance of a Cobra running a .307 rear end with a toploader W/ a 2.87 1st gear? What would the other gear ratios be? If you were going to use that high of a rear end ratio wouldnt it be better to use a 5 or 6 spd to step it up more evenly for better road race results? Michael

A five gear box, a la Tremec, would not give you any more of an advantage than a Toploader since the fifth gear is under 1.00.

Im not talking about the final gear or top speed as much as I am talking about having a high speed rear end (.308) and having more gears to step up to that top speed. Running a .308 rear end would leave you with a bigger drop off of rpm between 2-3 3-4 than a 5 0r 6 speed. Its more of a road race concern than someone just looking to go top end. Im not an engineer, just using common sense, but if Im wrong please show me the way.
Michael
