Where can I find a drag strip near ATL?
Hi y'all,
I moved to the Atlanta area a little less than a year ago and I am still learning the outskirts of the city. I want to ask you natives if there are any drag strips that have open track days, so I can see what my beast can do in the quarter mile (hey Bill Parham if you're reading this, I'll short shift it at 5000RPM, I promise :D ) |
If you travel north on Hwy 140 from Canton towards Reinhardt College, you'll find a nice straightaway called "Carpenter's Flat." When I was in high school, we used to take our cars up there and... oh, wait... never mind. :3DSMILE:

There is a 1/4 mile strip in Commerce, GA.
I ran there at the Buick-Olds-Pontiac event when I had my Grand National. |

Thanks guys.

Toy Collector,
We are planning a visit to the track tomorrow night (Friday) for T&T. As of now, we are planning on going to Steele, AL to do it. Commerce is a slow track compared to Silver Dollar Raceway(Reynolds) and Steele. Though I've never been there in my car, I hear the starting line is on a slant. Have fun trying to stage, tach up, and launch while holding the brake too. So since Commerce is out, there are only two tracks left to go to... We don't do no stinking 1/8 tracks. SDR and Steele. They are both about the same distance, but Steele is all interstate instead of having to speed on back roads to SDR. Also, Steele is probably about .1-.3 faster than SDR. Entry fee at Steele: $5, @ SDR: $10. I was going to email you, but I couldn't find your email addy. Please join us if you can. I plan on taking my WS6 if I get my new mods in the mail in time to install them. There will be a N/A Saleen, heads and cam SS Camaro, and a couple other cars going out too. Come one, come all. Email me if you want to meet up for the ride out. brianhinson@yahoo.com or call at 404-217-5553(cell) Take care. Brian |

Spy photo of TC's new motor. Now we know why he's looking for a drag strip.

First ToyCollector posted this back in 8/1/2001, if he hasn't found a drag strip by now he never will. Keith, GeorgiaSnakes photo is not edited because I remember sending you a picture of a local Cape Coral DSCC member with a similar engine but in a yellow COBRA.
