This coming weekend:

NINETY, yes 90! cars signed up for Saturday and about FIFTY for Sunday.

About six Cobra's to show.

Remember, it's free to come and watch. Roam around the track with no crowds!

Well, this seems to me my own personal ramblings...

Folks, check with Chin before you consider driving your Cobra...they have changed their rules for novice Cobra's (but nothing bad happened to cause that!).

Some of the instructors have seat complaints. Remember that Miles, Gurney and company raced these with the same type seats. They have roll bar issues. remember though these aren't racing events, just a chance to go out and drive your car fast.

I will still support Chin events. I am just passing along that the rules have changed.

Hope to see you at Sebring in August.

So what changed? I went to their web site and couldn't find any car rules at all.

Go to the track times tab on the left of their homepage. It's their newsletter with a note to Cobra car owners.

Sooo, how did it go? Wish I was there, but I was trying to master bending brake lines. Still have a long way to go before I get that right.

It's no big deal (if you don't mind dual hoops) and only applies to novice drivers. Here is the rule to drive your Cobra at a Chin event.

"It is a great undertaking for an enthusiast to take on the challenge of building one of the various do-it-yourself Cobra kit replicars. It is one of the all-time great sports car profiles... however, having good-looks alone does not make a car safe for the track. Features like non-structural fiberglass doors, non-load bearing windshield frames with no roll-over protection, and half-seats that do not provide head/neck support are a serious concern.

A new Cobra owner may be very enthusiastic about getting some track experience. In the Chin Motorsports program, that means one of our staff instructors would be assigned to provide in-car advanced driver coaching while riding along in the right seat. At every event, riding in the right seat of an entry-level driver, our instructors make a great leap-of-faith and commitment to keep a novice driver safe, and to put their own personal safety in the hands of that driver. Many Cobras with well-prepared V8s are capable of 120+mph in use at the track. So, under those circumstances, to be properly prepared to use at the track, Chin Motorsports mandates the following requirements for a novice driver using a Cobra replicar:
structural roll-over hoops behind both seats, or full roll-bar similar to Factory Five Spec.
seats and restraints must be identical for driver and passenger
side mirrors on left and right, in addition to dash-mounted rear-view mirror.
For an experienced driver that has been solo-qualified, there is no requirement for an instructor to ride along. So, you can use a Cobra and be exempt from these requirements. However, passengers will not be permitted if the car is not in compliance with the guidelines above.

Drive Well, The management"

It was a good day. Thank you. There was heavy rain right at lunch, but the track was pretty dry by 2PM and the rest of the day. No mechanical problems which is always a good thing. Sebring is a great track.

The big thing about the "Cobra" rules is that if you have a race seat for yourself, you must install one for the instructor or both of you could just use your stock seats. My instructor earlier this year pitched a fit because I installed a seat just for myself (which was ok then) and he almost didn't ride with me. I believe that's where this rule came from.

I just found out today that my Backdraft won't be able to run HOD at Daytona in December. No convertibles unless you have a full cage including down bars by the windshield so this may leave out the factory five guys too. The only single day package will be on Friday. The rest of the weekend packages will require you to buy multiple days.
