Visit to Superformance - Olthoff Racing

How I spent my summer vacation..... well part of it anyway:D

While driving the family back from VA, I had to take a detour to Olthoff Racing in Mt Ulla, NC to see Superformance :D ... While the family entertained themselves by driving the salesman crazy**) and my wife wondered what was coming home with us  , I toured the shop and demo'd a beautiful silver and black SPF with a 351W... being wary of the local law enforcement.

For pictures visit my member gallery. (If I were as good at this Forum stuff as Keith, I would link them in...maybe he can do that later..)

Olthoff! oops, Thanks John for the spelling correction...

John McMahon 06-23-2002 11:49 AM

Glad you had fun! They are a great bunch of people that really support their customers. I don't own a SPF, but when I race with them, they treat me just the same. THE BEST!

One thing....Olthoff...the name is Olthoff.

Chill,
Sensational story....sensational photos! I'm heading down to Va-Beach to help deliver a nifty little Carolina twin-inboard
sport-fisherman north to Buzzards Bay (I swear that is the name of the body of water on which I reside [overlooking, not "on"]). Since I already have an advanced case of SPF-lust, I may as well detour a few miles to chez Olthoff. Looks like a great dealership. Several people in Massachusetts didn't bother with local dealers--they went straight to the Olthoff ---even for their 351W stroker engines.
You buying one---AND keeping the Harley?
Chow,

chill 06-24-2002 08:32 PM

I'm a native of the Beach, now in GA. We made it to Olthoff in about 4 hrs (with the kids and stops, etc).

As for the SPF or the HD....the visit was part of the decision process. Heading to Factory Five in 2 weeks.

I'll post the photos....:)

I just met the gentleman from the Ohio SPF Dealership at the DVSFII. He said he couldn't sell me a SPF because I live in Florida. He said he is the one who brought SPF into the country back in 1993. Both Dennis Olthoff and his father Bob from NC, and Doug Reed from LA our members of our club. If you go to the SPF web site and run your zip code they will put you in touch with your local dealer with SPF.

Chill, nice pics and report, so you're heading up towards Fred's area? I believe FFR is still in wareham I assume.

Fred, an old buddy of mine (best man at my wedding actually), his parents had a place on the hill a few houses north, adjacent to the Chart Room restaurant in Cataumet overlooking the harbor (Nautilis Rd if my brain cells are still there :D ). Bought the place right at the right time--I'm afraid to even guess what it's worth now. I spent my summers there in the early 80s creating all sorts of havic in the general Cataumet/Falmouth area. Great times.

Keith, if you read this, I actually ran the Falmouth Road Race in August '82 up there. 7.1 miles I believe--still amazes me I am alive to tell it---talk about heat!! Oh Keith, doesn't that SPF look real nice in TITANIUM SILVER--can I change your mind!!!!!

Chill,

Glad you had a good time at Olthoff's place. I have met Dennis, and he is top shelf.

-----Submiminal message------

...suddenly I feel the urge to call Olthoff about the red one....wierd:confused:

I am flying to Mass to visit Factory Five next week:) gotta see 'm all.

By the way, anyone in the market for a 2002 Fatboy?....Domestic approval for the Cobra project granted....but can't keep all the toys! (see gallery for picture).

Toy Collector..
This is hysterical! Read my home address. Then assume that you are me reading your post...I'm going.."I was BEST MAN at some Georgia guys wedding????" Huh?

You might have been thinking of Red Brook harbor or Shore Road as locations of the Chart Room. I live on Squeteague Harbor Road (used to be Shore Road---wh/ I prefer). Maybe "Nautilis" is a new road.

Another Fred in Cataumet! (Actually there are at least 4 of us)....Small world!

The Harley should be easy enough to sell advertise it in the cycle trader. The best $25-30 you will spend.

If you are visiting cobra manufacturers you might want to check out Hunter's Kit cars in Ocala, FL http://216.87.18.119/hunters/ He uses late model Corvette suspension parts in his cobra's. I own one with 1985 vette parts and a nice 5.0/t-5 combo and I built it for about $23K. You could drive down to Mouse World and drop by Randy Hunters shop. I is only 1.5 miles off I-75.

You might want to visit Unique Motor cars in Gadsden, AL they build a nice kit with a Jaguar based suspension.

Southern Automotive in McDonough GA is a Great engine builder so you must see him as he is only about 45 minutes from you. He is a Unique Dealer and builds some real nice Ford Motors from stroker 427's to real mean small blocks. My Buddy Jerry Rowley has a real nice 427 motored Unique on Southern Automotives showroom. Ask for Bill Parham great guy.

Everette Morrison is north of Tampa. NIce heavy duty body with 4 different suspension options.

Chill,

Is that you in the M3 at Road Atlanta in your photo gallery?

Fred,

You are right, when I re-read it from your perspective, you must have been like--"Do I know this guy?? :JEKYLHYDE ". Yes it is Red Brook Harbor I was thinking of. If you leave the Chart Room, go left and take the second left which is a dead end road with maybe 10 homes on it (maybe Nairn Rd?). I knew how to get there, but never worried about the address since I wasn't paying the bills at the time :3DSMILE:, and I was usually in the state of drinking intoxicants and chasing women, or recovering from same  so my memory from those days is a blur (probably better that way).

Fred Douglass 07-04-2002 12:08 PM

Toy C...
You DA MANNNNN! Hysterical! Parallel Universe? How's this for some evocative memorabilia: The Kidd, the Lee(s)lide, the WigWam (wh/ is now Zacchary's) and Shucker's? You and I may still have unpaid tabs at these august watering holes, if what you say about the dipsomaniacal haze/days is nothing but the truth...!

If you go to my photo gallery and look at pictures #3 and #5 (w/ the sainted Golden "Willie" manning [dogging?] the bow gun-turret), you're looking dead west at the eastern tip of Lawrence Island wh/ closes off Squeteague Harbor from Megansett Harbor and its attendant riff-raff (ar-ar-ar). You might be interested to know that, up nearer your former digs, they SOLD Bassetts Island (at least the north part) and are putting some houses in! Is nothing sacred?
Regards,

Fred Douglass 07-04-2002 03:44 PM

Toy Collector,
I couldn't find a way to e-mail you, and I normally try to avoid overloading the site with personal messages. .BUT.....Great car you have! I noted that you lived in Roswell....does that mean y'all see them funny lights...no, wait a minute...wrong state......nontheless, living that close to 'Lanta, you must get a near-daily dose of the "Mouth of the South". I knew the SOB back when he was racing a boat named "Vamp X"...i.e. years before he "won" (retained) the America's Cup. He wasn't on Lithium then, nor married to Hanoi Jane. This meant we didn't have to wait so long between the little episodes of La Tourette's...speaking of which, since I stopped using Bombay Sapphire as a mouthwash...my episodes are almost non-existent...

ToyC,

"Is that you in the M3 at Road Atlanta in your photo gallery? "

Yes. The photo was taken at the BMWCCA school earlier this year entering Turn 1..**) **) **)
