Cobra Bash II is in the planning stages now.
OK, I have been working on Cobra Bash II.
Dan has graciously instructed me to be the host of our second event. Thanks Dan :D I hope to be able to get a few more ideas at Cobra Bash I to improve Cobra Bash II ! Here is what I have so far..... I have had some discussions with the Central Florida SCCA and we have been invited to Gainesville on November 16th or 17th to run at the 1.6-mile track. I have not confirmed this price yet, but the cost will cover the track cost and insurance. I should have a definitive answer this week. < $40.00 per driver. I was unable to secure the Florida State Fairgrounds at any time after September 1st. We can work on another event for mid summer next year. That appears to be our best time frame to reserve FSF. Gainesville is about 1 1/2 hours North of Tampa. It will be one cool convoy up, trust me.... Saturday (11/16) will be arrival of DSCC members and car show and dinner at Beef O' Brady’s in Lutz, FL. There will be notification of our gathering in the local newspaper. I am in communication with the owner of Beef O’ Brady’s to allow us to conduct our car show and have access to the restrooms. Trophies will be given to top cars voted on by audience. Sunday am, Cobra convoy to Gainesville for a day of racing. Track will be run by the Central Florida Region SCCA. Tech inspection is similar to the rules of the DSCC. Car's not passing inspection will not be allowed to race. Hotel information will be posted in a short while. I have room for two Cobras at my "new" house and Tom Jones has informed me that he has room for a few others. I am working on a reduced club rate at nearby hotels. There are a few local speed shops that may attend as vendors. I'm working on that as well. Automotive Engineering and Blue Oval Corral are a few of the prospects. I have asked for an instructor to teach a class on improving car setups for racing, but the cost for a seminar would have to be passed on to the attending DSCC members. Unless you all think that is something you want me to pursue, I am forgoing this as a possibility. Let me know what you think. Looking forward to a Pre-Holiday season Cobra Blowout in Central Florida! Ed FFR1997K |
Comments....
Ed, Florida plays South Carolina at Gainesville on 11/16/02. You may have a
very difficult time securing hotels for that week-end. The Hampton told us last year that they typically book out one YEAR in advance for home games. I was planning another DSCC event for the fall. Do you think I should push it back to Jan. or Feb.? I don't want to crowd the SCCA event. ( I was waiting until the end of July to set things up. ) |
Ed,
Cobra Bash I is a gathering of minds, with over 250 members and having 125 in Florida alone we have to find away to get our Cobras together. I knew if I got Ed on the band wagon he would try and out do me. The biggest thing going for Cobra Bash I is meeting everyone and putting faces to our now key board friends. We have FFR, Hunter, FFR Coupe, Kirkham, and other kits not finnished so we will have a few Hondas coming. We do have some unusual Cobras that are coming - Excaliber, Cobra Shop, Street Beast. Peter Gonsalves has a Unique but also has a number #1 Gonsalves, Pete use to sell his own Cobras. We are now only 18 days from our first gathering lets make it a good one. Dan |
Hi Dan,
Yes, you are correct. Cobra Bash is intended to get our members together and put some faces to the keyboard names. I myself would like to meet some of the people I have been conversing with through the years. I have been on the "Cobra" forums for about three years now and have met so many great folks. I only wish I could meet them face to face. For now, Cobra Bash is going to be a reason for getting the Florida Guys together. We dont have a "Snakes to the lake", or a "Chowdafest", or Tracks like Charlotte that we can gather at as a group just to name a few..... It seems like "AS A GROUP", us Florida guys dont do much of anything. That is hoping to change. I want “Cobra Bash” to be something we look forward to as a group. I am not going to try and out-do anyone. I just want to do my best to make this event memorable and fun for everyone. I want the guys that show up to come again next year, and tell their buddies about it. The more Cobra's the better! I'll put together a schedule of events and post the info soon. Hopefully we can get some good event ideas at Cobra Bash I. See you all in a few weeks. Joe, The Gainesville event is being run by the CFR SCCA. They have reserved the track for two days. The rate $$ for us to run at their track will be $20.00 per day for SCCA members, and $25.00 per day for non-members. I plan on setting up the hotel for the Tampa area and convoying up to GIR that morning. The SCCA arrives at 7:00 and then starts running the course at 9:00. That should give us plenty of time to convoy up, tech and familiarize ourselves with the course layout. Leaving the N. Tampa area NLT 6:30 am. I am still going to look into a local track as a back up. Gainesville would be nice for those guys who are coming from the North... They would be partially on their way home already.... Let me see what I can put together. Thanks, Ed FFR1997K |
We need Ideas?
I have a few ideas about Motel rooms even before we get together. You don't need a Motel room where you look out the window and see the pit area and pay BIG bucks for it. In Florida there are a lot of rooms and many if it's not snowbird time. I'm 5 hours from Gainsville but if I found a Motel within an hours drive that would be great. When I went to the Turkey Run in Daytona last year I was one hour away for $35 a night and had a continental breakfast included. I thought about going out for lunch for Cobra Bash I, but where could you go with 40 people even if they knew you where coming and still all eat on the sameday, (I actually think I have a place where it might work). We have a lot of things that we can iron out for all our future gatherings. Lets just make sure we make it come rain or shine, no rain date because at this time of year its suppose to rain everyday. Just make sure at least 10 Cobras make the Bash right Jerry?

Dan,
My intention is to find a nearby hotel that has room for trailers and a pool. I want to be able to provide ample parking for all those attending and a pool to relax in after a long day of Cobra admiring. Nothing flashy! Simple and affordable. I am planning an after hours party at the hotel so the gang can kick back, enjoy a few drinks, lounge in the pool and talk trash for the following day at the track. If the Gainesville track is not intriguing to the guys, I am also looking into reserving a dyno at a local speed shop. Not sure what the cost will be per Cobra, but I'd pay a few bucks to know what numbers my engine can produce. Especially after all the $$$ I put into her last summer. Not sure if we will have time to “tune” cars, but that depends on how many guys show up. Working on it! Just trying to get a feel for what most interests the Cobra gang. We have quite a few local attractions such as the Florida Aquarium, Bush Gardens and Lowry Park zoo (to name a few) to entertain the wife and kids if they are not inclined to look at cars all day. We will get some good ideas at Cobra Bash I. Only 2 1/2 weeks away! Ed FFR1997K |
What if we only go to gainesville? I want to do it all but I will have to see how work is going at that time

Hey Ruble, you guys don't leave me behind if you get a plan that will work, I just want to do something in my new cobra other than ride around town and have people pointing at me!!
