It's Silver
Well guys the hard part is over, I finished the paint yesterday ( I can now throw away the brushes and rollers). Now it's time to cut with 1000, 2000 then buff the diamond.

Mike I guess I have about 60 to 80 hours in the body prep and beer drinking. I had an old friend help with the paint - TC and chill met "DONNIE" my infamous painter. He is a piece of work but helped me a ton.
Every time I thought I had it ready Donnie found another pin hole and handed me the Rage Gold. I would not hesitate to do it again as the satisfaction is unbelievable and you can save a few bucks. Randy |

Correct - it is Silver
As a nationally recognized authority on Silver Cobras, I agree that your Unique FIA is in fact Silver...and lookin' good.:rolleyes: Nice job Randy, more guts and patience than me. You and your wild painter remembered to not use latex paint, right--especially with the monsoon season we seem to be in? On a serious note, the pictures show the working area this was done in. True hotrodder spirit in this project, where beer is served, and buddies come over to help out a true home builder project. I am sure you are proud and I can't wait to see it. I am willing to bet it will rival many more expensive paint jobs (that 2000 grit is key ;) ;) ) |
WOW!!!! I've heard that silver paint will really show the quality of the prep work -- looks like you really nailed the prep work!

Whaler you are half right. The lighter colors hide waves, however the metalic paints show every scratch and blemish. If you have a small sanding line the metal lays down on a different angle and presto you have a flaw.
TC I was going to use latex but couldn't find it in a spray can. Donnie and I did find 53 cans of spray primer, 41 cans of silver and 60 cans of clear. Only down side - my finger is flat from holding those little red buttons down and what to do with 154 empty cans. :JEKYLHYDE :LOL: I'll call you when we get it cut and buffed - if I can find your number. Hot Rod spirit - is that what I've been afflicted with - I thought it was a flat wallet. Randy |

I'm working through my prep work at the moment and plan on spraying the body myself. I agree it is satisfying but frustrating at the same time. The easiest way to avoid spray can finger strain is just to tape the button down with some H/D masking tape. In fact if you can set up 30 or so cans pointed in the general direction of the car. Tape them all down, leave the shed and shut the door. Come back in an hour or so and hey presto, your paint job is done. Probably won't win any shows though.:JEKYLHYDE Cheers |

Just a thought here, but I bet that if you go to the FFR website you will find many guys with the hot rod spirit.
Assie Mike - thanks for the tip on the tape trick. Make sure you have an indiot stick to use for the general blocking of your car. If you can't find one I'll send you mine - I hope to not need it for a while. Thanks to all who have complimented my work - this is a great forum - someone always steps up to inflat your ego.
