Distributor timing curve
Looking for a performance shop in Northeast Florida that has a distributor machine. I am in the Green Cove Springs/Jacksonville area. Have a billet MSD distributor and want to change my timing curve.
Thanks,
Lynn

Lynn if you have the mech advance MSD Billet you don't need a performance shop. MSD has bushings in different colors that adjust the ammount of curve and springs of different color to adjust how soon it advances. If you go to their website you can download complete instructions along with the color chart and it only takes about 5 minutes to install the springs and the bushing and you don't even need to pull the distributor, just the cap and rotor.

I just toured MSD's website and missed finding a colored curve chart. Anybody got the link? Brent?

There are pretty exhaustive threads on his subject. It really comes down to what you are running for a cam, compression and whether or not you have iron or aluminum heads. Most seem to run 10-12 static with 22-24 in the distributor for a total advance of 34-39 but some as much as 39. all in by about 2800. Your 385 series engine may like more.
Gasoline grades and operating temps are also factors. My 428 liked a blue spring and a light silver spring. My 427 likes more sooner and will make the most power with a ton of advance due to the shape of the combustion chambers / pistons.
