Reptile Roundup Hotel Info

More info to follow but for right now here is the hotel and some Roundup info:

Wednesday and Thurdsday night (Gainesville).
Hampton Inn.
Thursday and Friday are track days, not sure if a drivers school is scheduled for Thursday or not. So far the track has been reserved for Thursday and Friday.

Friday and Saturday night (Ocala) :
Microtel Inn / Suites (only 63 rooms available).
$39 single
$49 Double
$59 Suite

I checked into staying at the new Sleep Inn hotel located right next to Garlits but they wanted $$79 - $109 per night.

There will be a mobile dyno attending the Roundup this year.
I have already spoken to "Tuning tricks" and they will be available for pulls on Friday at Gainesville and Saturday at Garlits. The dyno will run you $75.00 for 5 pulls.

I need an artist to help me with this years Reptile Roundup logo design.
If you are willing to help please contact me as soon as possible.

DSCC members, look for a news letter and Roundup info in the mail towards the end of July....

5 months and counting....

Hey Ed, i live in Ocala. If there's anything I can do to help with the event let me know.

Engineer Ed 06-12-2005 09:29 PM

MDP.
Actually, I could use a bit of help.
I'll be visiting the Ocala area in the next month or two to look for a place to hold the banquet dinner,
Room for roughly 100 people.

I'll be in touch with you in a few weeks.
If you have any ideas I'd be glad to hear them.....
president@deepsouthcobraclub.com

Cheers,
Ed

No problem, I'll start brain storming. My other half is well connected in the community, finding a place won't be a big deal.

ED;
What are the dates?

Engineer Ed 06-15-2005 09:29 PM

The 2005 Roundup is being held on November 10th-13th.
Not sure of the events for Thursday yet.
Could be an advanced drivers school, a novice drivers school like last year or a "Fast paced" track event.
Friday's event will be reasonably tame since we will have 40 cars and a number of novice drivers, not to mention, non-track prepared Cobras. I like to keep the event easy for those guys who dont normally attend open track events.

My only concern with making Thursday a fast paced event is breaking Cobra's on the first day of the event.
Gainesville is BRUTAL on our cars and we normally lose at least 15% per event when we run hard..... Not what I want to happen at the Roundup.
I seem to recall my car being one of the "broken" Cobras last year..... One of two Cobra's I broke that weekend :D

Lets start to get the word out....
This year I want to see well over 100 cars attend.

Ed,
Is your new email address going to be president@deepsouthcobraclub.com ? I know I tried to email you at work before I left on my vacation to Ohio and it came back.
Our local group of Cobra enthusiasts are planning on making the Reptile Roundup as our normal monthly weekend gathering, see you in November.

A cool hotel in Ocala is the Ritz Historic Inn. It's right on the main Boulevard in town. They have reasonable rates and big rooms. The rooms have hardwood floors and fireplaces. The parking lot is surrounded by a big concrete wall.

MDP727,
The way the DSCC drinks beer on Friday night they want to be really close to their beds.

Also need to keep in mind trucks/trailers... lots of them.

Engineer Ed 06-28-2005 06:39 PM

The Microtel is right across the street from Don Garlits.
When the RR participants arrive they simply drop off their car/trailer at Garlits and then go across the street to the hotel.
No parking problems at the hotel and your cars are totally secured on Garlits property.
All you have to do is check in and then join us at the Meet and Greet party.

Dan, yes my email address is: president@deepsouthcobraclub.com

Ed, is your computer back up? I seem to have read somewhere that you had a HD crash? What is Don Garlits? I'm planning on driving my Unique 289 FIA up for this event, no trailer, no backup, just my cell phone. I am a total rookie! but I would like to get some track time. In what respect is the track hard on cars??? What breaks???

Just planning on 'tweaking' my stock 302 HO motor, adding Trick Flow aluminum heads and a new cam this month, along with a Speed Demon carb set up by Don Gould. Can't wait to get her on the road 'tweaked'.

I'm planning on taking Thursday, Friday, and Monday as vacation days from work, driving up, having fun, and driving back. What all goes on??

Thanks, Rick.

The above post on our web site discribes last years event and for 2005 certain things will be a little differant, no raffled cobra. For 2005 it will be the fourth Reptile Roundup and our fifth annual meeting of The Deep South Cobra Club. If you're a Cobra owner and live in Florida you better make this gathering a must.

Gatorac 08-07-2005 03:28 PM

The Hamtpton Inn hasn't heard about the DSCC. They want $90 for a room. Is this right?

Tom Wells 08-07-2005 04:38 PM

Yo Gatorac,

I made ours yesterday for $75. Maybe all the desk folks aren't aware of the rate?

Tom

Engineer Ed 08-08-2005 09:07 PM

I spoke with the Hampton Inn today.
WE DO have a block of rooms reserved for the Roundup.
Nov 9th-10th
Ask for the Deep South Cobra Club rate.

Ed
