Cruising central Alabama

I've been visiting family in Auburn, Alabama for the past few weeks. When I got up today, the weather was so perfect, I dusted off the Cobra took it for a little 200 mile cruise to Cheaha State Park. Cheaha, the highest point in Alabama, is east of Birmingham. I got there by driving north along Alabama Highway 49.

Highway 49 is a great road for a Cobra cruise. It is a good, rural, two-lane road with lots of twisty sections as you get close to Cheaha. Between the blue skies, warm sun, cool wind, roaring exhaust and twisty road, I smiled continuously for about four hours. ... At one point, I spotted some older cars at a roadside general store and stopped in to check them out. The owner's family came out to check out the Cobra while I looked as his collection. We both had a great time. If you find yourself in central Alabama looking for a good road, try this one.

Hey There Tommy

Tommy,
Good to hear from you.
Sounds like a good time on your road trip.
You need to watch for them country boys out there in those sticks in the middle of nowhere.
I've got a real good story about nearly running out of gas in the Cobra in the "Way Western" NC mountains as the sun was setting. Three of them "good old boys" where sitting at the one and only gas station for miles around. As I pulled in running on fumes, one says: "mighty stout Ford you got there boy," and as I looked over to see who was talking, I got this really weird feeling of what they were actually checking out - finally figured it wasn't the car, or Carol, but my cute little butt - So I fired that puupy up, laid down alittle Goodyear rubber, and said goodby!
Now on the other hand, Rubble being one of those Auburn guys, might just like all that stuff (lmao).
Is Sebring next month in your future? I'm trying to work it in, really hard, but may not be possible :( :(

Terry -

My car event schedule will be a little limited for the next few months. I sold my home in DeFuniak Springs and will be moving to a my new home in May. Moving is always a pain the butt that takes longer than planned, so I'm hesitant to make any firm commitments to attend events in the near future. After I get settled in and get my tools unpacked, I'll be ready to go.

BTW, I've seen you bending over your car and I'm betting they were looking at Carol.
