Yamazee,
What is your oil pressure now that you have the car is back? 80psi is too high. I dont know who built the engine but you would be wise to inquire about the high pressure. Cracker is correct.... high pressure will cause premature distributor gear failure. Get is checked out. Congrats on the Backdraft purchase. I LOVE mine! Ed |
Also get the gauge checked, it could be bad.

Where in hudson valley are you? I am in Goshen. Any events near by? |
People are people. Things happen. Its not about having a problem. Its about how they took care of the problem for you. Thats my 2 cents. Just make sure the engine wasnt damaged, write another check and go have some fun.

I am just off I-84 by the Taconic Parkway, right by Stormville. You have the Bear Mountain car show every Wednesday night and tomorrow should be a great one with high temps and no rain forecasted. Its everything, bikes, hotrods, classics. Went last week and there were 5 cobras, 2 Lambos and 3 Ferrari's just to give you an idea. There was at least 200 cars or more, maybe more. There's a July 4th Cobra get together in Hyde Park. They are meeting in the morning to drive in the parade and then go for a ride through the country, stopping for lunch somewhere along the way. I believe they have 5 or 6 so far. If you need more info, let me know. Also there is the SUMMER RUN in Lake George http://www.upstatecobras.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5 This will be my 3rd year and it is a great weekend get together. It keeps getting bigger and better every year, and its in a beautiful place the whole family can enjoy, lots to do. I really look forward to this one. What kind of Cobra do you have? |
got the car back, oil pressure problem is now resolved. runs at about 60 cold, and once warmed up its about 45 at idle. Been a little over a week now. Bought for a weekend toy, but its so much fun I have not been able to get out of it. :D :D :D :D

what was the cause of the high oil pressure???
|
bad line, faulty gauge, possible wrong oil filter, were all a suspect culprit.
|
oil pressure is predominantly a function of the pressure relief valve at the pump. Oil viscosity, filters, and lines all have very little effect on hot oil pressure,30-35 psi is plenty.... and that is the pressure you should be looking at....bad guage? maybe but not likely. also, don't worry too much about that distributor gear...it would take many thousands of miles to wear it out. most wear out from cam walk....not oil pressure.

been a few weeks now and here is what i notice:
when cold oil pressure is between 60-70 pounds when on the gas a little, once the car warms up it settles down to about 40-45 pounds of pressure. car seems to be running fine with the exception of an occasional backfire, but thats been addressed on another thread. Other than that, I have to say this is by far the most fun vehicle I have ever had, and I have had many of them from porsche to whatever. I should have gotten one of these years ago, and would have saved hundreds of thousands screwing around with so called "highline" cars. Everyone on the board here has been extremely helpfull, and I am gratefull for all the great input I have gotten. Thanks guys! :D :D :D |
My 351W oil pressure runs about 65-70 cold and settles to about 55-60 warm.
