Jack-it-up
Family keeps asking what I want for Christmas I need a floor jack. So alittle help with this would be nice. I saw one at sears that went down to 3 1/2 inches and was made of alum and rated at 1 1/2 ton. Any others

Robert, I bought one from Car Quest last summer, 2 ton low profile(about 3 inches,I`ll check in the AM) for 170 bucks. This jack could be used in any auto shop,great buy!!

I bought the Sear alum jack a week after the Cobra. Its a nice jack, but I would prefer a jack that has lower clearance for a long distance reach. Something like this one.

Try Harbor Freight, they have several low slung floor jacks with all alum. construction and end roller, good prices too.

I'll second Bill's post about Harbour Freight...I got my aluminum low profile jack there and it's been great.

Don't buy the Sears jack. POS! I bought the 2 ton version. I jacked up the Cobra 8 times and it no longer worked. Called Sears 90 day warranty and could not order parts. I took apart the cylinder and it was full of metal shavings. One lodged between the ball and the seat in the check valve. Had to resurface the seat and clean out all the shavings. Its made in China and you can't get parts to rebuilt it. After the seals go it will be a fancy boat anchor.

I picked up a low profile jack (need one to get under the FIA pipes that are under the car) at Northern Tool, and I keep it in the trunk, along with a jack stand, in case I need to jack her up for any reason. Keep it in a gym bag. Very stable!!

I'll second that. The Sears jack is a POS. I bought it at OSH and it started to leak right away, then a few months later it wouldn't hold the car up. I returned it for an exchange. The send jack is working fine but I think there are better jacks out there. I had the same problem with their little air compressor too. Had to make an exchange. Keeping fingers crossed.

Thanks Guys, there is a Horbour Freight and a Northern tool a few miles up the road I'll go by there and take a look, And Sears is out.

My Jack - that I keep in my trunk in a gym bag in case of emergencies (along with a tire repair kit) is a Torin Big Red 1.5 ton aluminum racing jack (blue color) that is a low profile jack and weighs 26 pounds. It is a great jack - a few cranks and she's up - and I always stick a jack stand under for security (also carry one in the gym bag - a flat aluminum base that the jack cylinder slips into - slick). Purchased at Northern Tool. Check out the Torin jacks on the internet.

I also just got the Costco Torin aluminum floor jack for $109 shipped. Works great!
