Original 289 coming to the Fling
I get the honor of bringing my friends original 289 Cobra to the Fling. I was joking with him the other day and as a joke asked him if he would let me bring it down. He didn't hesitate to say yes! The car was an original slabside that was converted into an FIA model. It has the 289 with the Paxton. White with Blue stripes. I will have the honor of rewiring the car when I bring it back from the Fling. It still has the original wiring and it's getting old looking. The car was owned by Sammy Hagar prior to him. I don't know the CSX number right now but I will get it.

Hell, I'm just happy to hear that you'll be at the Fling! (But bringing an original car ... extra "cool" points!)

dscott............will I have a chance to run over from alexandria to take a look at it?!?!?:)

Hey Don I actually sat in an original way back in 1965.Back then
I wasn't too impressed but of course I was young and into hot rods. |
The car is on it's way from California. I'll have it all summer to work on it. Kobrac, you are more than welcome to stop by and see it. The first original I touched was in Phoenix. We were using a shop owned by a friend of Don Roberts who was the driver for Classic at that years Run & Gun. I walked over to it and started tapping on the fender asking who's kit it was! Boy did I feel stupid after the guy said....PLEASE MOVE AWAY FROM THE CAR........!

Another slab side
This past weekend at the OVRSCCA event in Columbus Ohio I ran into a guy who had a custom painted leather Cobra jacket on it. We talked for a while and he whipped out pictures of his original 289 slab side car.
The guy lives in central Ohio, is a Cobra owner and didn't know about the Fling! If he doesn't know, WOW! Get the word out! SELL TICKETS! Rick |
The number of the car I get to bring is CSX2143. Unfortunately I don't get to drive it much. It's going to be a trailer queen!

Anyone have any history on this car? The owner doesn't really care but I'm curious. It was purchased from Sammy Hagar as a slabside and then converted to a FIA after a small accident on the California freeway involving the Cobra and a concrete wall!

I got to drive the original 1963 Cobra today, 289 w/paxton. WOW, was that fun. I was surprised how easily I fit in the car. I've always heard how tight they are. I took a couple of pictures for your enjoyment.

DScott - where abouts in Sauk Centre are you located? I get through there once a month or so.......do you have a shop?
Will have to stop in. Nothing like an original......I had a chance to go through the Peterson Automotive Museum when they had a couple dozen original Shelby's on display. I'm not much of a chassis expert, but the one thing I was surprised by is the accuracy of most of the replica's. Very hard to tell them apart..........I see your painted louvers though, behind the front wheels!........a great clue for an original. All the originals had painted louvers. Every single one I saw. |
jahred, Yes I do have a shop. Give me a call and I can give you directions. 1-888-722-6272.
