It can't be true!!!!!!!

I have heard rumors that some people are not going to bring their Cobra because of the $100 donation to help cover costs:(

Tell me it is not so%/

I'm probably not bring my cobra...time constraints...I have paid my $100.00 registration fee.

Guys, it's only $100.00.

$100 is still $100 to some folks -but- straight from the DVSF website: "Insofar as this is essentially a (Cobra) family gathering, if the $100 poses a problem, please drop a message to DV and let him know what the issue is."

I haven't heard of anyone deciding not to go because of the $100. Heck, it's cheaper than 99.9% of other forms of entertainment!

rdorman 04-29-2003 11:42 AM

$100

I am unable to comprehend not going over $100. I can not think of a way to get that much entertainment for a C-note. Three days of fun! Heck I will probably drink more than $100 before the three days are out:LOL: And no DV, not in the Cobra!

I share DV, and I think a lot of others, sentiment that we want to keep this a fun event. The whole point is for a bunch of people with a common bond to get together and, hopefully, enjoy each other company. No serious competition. Not to much work for the participates. Just fun.

A note on the work thing. I think everyone needs to help out in some way. Just my opinion. But how often do you go to a party or family gathering and provide/do nothing? I would never think of that. If I am invited to a gathering, I never show up empty handed and I never sit on my hands while I am there.

He!! I am not sure where that came from! I don't think any one does that at the Fling. Personally I don't really care if it keeps getting bigger or not. I think there is some thing to be said for not being over loaded. What I don't want to see is it go away.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE NOT BEEN, LISTEN UP...........

IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT NOT GOING, IT WOULD BE YOUR LOSS NOT TO ATTEND!

Man am I full of opinions today. I can't imagine any one not enjoying themselves.

I. I. I. Me Me Me:LOL: ;)

I'm going to jump in here to simply make a very important comment.

Pete is so right, if ANYONE has an objection or simply can't afford the $100.00 entry fee and it is keeping you from coming, I WANT TO KNOW!
You can post the reason publicly or privately. I assure you if you send me a private note, it will stay private. No one in our family will be turned downed because of the entry fee...no one!

Please do not be embarrassed to let me know. Many, many of us have had a very bad year, but, that should and will not keep you from coming.

DV.."WE" are family - period!

Cobra20646 04-29-2003 06:49 PM

Well, I have to admit that I was a little surprised to hear about a fee this year. First time I heard about it was just after last years fling.

One thing I'm sure of...... if DV has to charge a fee, he darn well has a good reason, and it isn't a selfish one!

Think about it people...... all night security for your car while you sleep it off, entertainment, food, police escorts and traffic control, and a slew of other incidentals that cost money.

When you stop and think of what's being packed into a weekend of fun and adventure, then the 100 bucks is really a bargain.

I would really be surprised if what Rick said was true...... that the 100 bucks is causing people to leave the little car at home this year. Jeez, not taking the car is like going out there without your pants on!

Tell me it ain't so.

petek 04-29-2003 07:54 PM

Let's put this one to bed now.

If you are NOT coming to the DVSF III because of the $100 cost, either post here or get in contact with DV.

Otherwise... we'll see you ALL at the FLING!!!

rdorman 04-30-2003 06:09 AM

win-win

Personally I think the key to the sucess of this event is its fun, communionship nature along with helping out a good cause. It makes you feel good on multiple levels.

Growing up my father was a major fund raiser for Saint Judes Children Research Hospital. For those heathens ;) out there, St. Jude is the patron saint of lost or impossible causes. Hence the name of the hospital. Think about it. Lost or impossible causes, in this case deceases, in children.

I spent a fair amount of time around children my own age that stood little chance of seeing adulthood. The experience has left a permanant impression on me.

CF is a genetic decease. You are born with it. Only about 2 out of 5 children with the decease live past 18. Even then the average life span is only 30-33. These life spans are up considerably over years ago.

ONE IN APPROXIMATELY 29 OF THOSE READING THIS POST CARRY THE DEFECTIVE GENE AND WILL PASS IT TO YOUR CHILDREN.

So where does the money go? I can tell where it doesn't come from. It doesn't come out of the sufferers of CF pocket.

I could not bring my car anyway - fast as it is, I haven't yet managed to achieve actual flight in it yet. And the onboard facilities might be a little lacking for a trans-Atlantic hop even if it could fly.

I paid the $100 anyway. It is little enough for all that will be organised on my behalf. And if this fee stops or significantly reduces the "no-show" percentage, all the better. You cannot properly organise an event like this without a solid feel for the number of attendees.

Thanks in advance for another great Fling. :)

Hey Wilf,

The last time I was looking at the "who's comming" list, I thought I saw you as bringing your car. Maybe the book keeping program just records your registration that way.

wilf leek 05-01-2003 06:44 AM

Jim - not sure about how the registration worked when I signed up, I think the "make of car" or whatever may have been a mandatory field I could not get around. I won't be shipping my car over. :(
No matter, so long as Turk is ultimately unsuccessful in trying to set fire to it, I should be able to be seen in a "real" cobra, if only in the passenger seat. I think I got enough brownie points in when I stopped him from blowing up MSD #2??? :3DSMILE:

Anyway - the whole point was, $100 is no biggy considering what is on offer, and pales into insignificance compared with the cost of the air ticket!
MHO only, of course.

rdorman 05-01-2003 09:26 AM

Wilf, ears burning this morning?

DV and I had a meeting this morning and we where talking about how people come from all over. You and Aussie Mike came up.

Ship the car. I live in Columbus just have them send it to my house and I will put it in the garage until you get here!

I can't beleive how big this event is shaping up to be. I am not talking about the number of cars either!

$100.00 ???

I personally can not believe that anyone that can afford to have one of these expensive toys in their garage.
Can't afford the $100.00 donation.

Come on let's be realistic, you will spend that much on
one dinner with the wife, a gas fill up for your SUV and a pack of smokes.
This is a whole weekend package!
A great Bang for the Buck!
IMHO. :D

Excaliber 05-04-2003 12:26 AM

Well of course not everybody here does have a cobra in the garage. And some have fallen on hard times. It may be all they can handle just to GET to the Fling! I appreciate DV giving the opportunity for ALL to attend regardless of their ability to pay.

I have a hunch if it places any kind of burden on DV, someone will step up to the plate and "cover" for him/them.

Ernie
