Which English manufacturer built this cobra??
This is not a good photo but it might be enough to ID this car.
The hood scoop is of peticular interest to me. It seems to be very wide as opposed to the other types. It is a right hand drive car and thats why I thought you guys could help. Your Friend, Hershal Byrd:) |
It looks like COB 1 chassis COB6131 a twin supercharged 427 that belonged to Rod Leach. The two filler caps on each rear fender and the hood scoop give it away.

Thanks ST !
So that hood is a ligitimate cobra hood. Man I like it ! If I could find a hood like that and it would fit my Midstates, I would buy it. It give alot more room under the hood for a big air filter. Hershal Byrd :) |
It's legit alright and VERY, VERY expensive!

COB 1
ST, you are right, this is COB 1. Rod Leach also had special vents made up for the front wings (fenders). The car sports a twin turbocharged 427, apparently pushing out over 700 horsepower. That was through a carburettor; he did plan to move to electronic management some time ago, with in increase to about 800 horsepower. When he sold the car, the advertisement read something like, "0-60 mph in under 3 secs., 0-100 mph in 7.5 secs." Now that IS fast! :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE:
Rod also owned a J4 (GT40 Mk. 4), as well as being a dealer for Cobras. He is based in Hertford Heath, not far from where I live, and used to visit a monthly classic car meet at his local country pub nearby. I saw him there a few times in some of his incredible cars. His company is called "Nostalgia." Hope this is of interest. Regards, Paul |
G'day mate,
Just seen your question about the Cobra manufacturer. My guess would be it's a DAX, produced in the UK. If you want to check it out they do have a web site. Cheers Dave |
G'day again BT,
I will bow to the other guy's greater knowledge about it being COB 1. But, you may still like to contact DAX cars as the Cobra kit they make does have this wide air scoop on the hood. Who knows, if you get the dimensions of the DAX hood you may find it will fit your car. Dave |
About Leach's car ,this car is now in France,Leach built this car on widened chassis and now is back look like 7 liter car
|
I used to live in the UK and the dax "large scoop was for the Jag v-12' carbs.
Cheers! |
Uh,,,,I sure would like to see the pic of this car!!! Is it posted somewhere?
