Battery replacement?

I read through all the previous posts regarding ERAs with similar questions but they're a bit outdated and the information is no longer valid.

I need to replace the 24f battery that I just removed from ERA #164 but the model has been discontinued. It's positioned under the right front fender and the hard part is that it needs the hold down lips on the ends of the battery in order to fit the current clamp/tray setup and apparently that's hard to come by these days. I've tried most of the auto parts stores within a 15mile radius of my house. I would just buy any 24f battery and modify the tray to hold it down, but access is limited (as everybody with the same setup knows) and I don't have the time to do major surgery at the moment.

I get one chance each year to drive this car. Otherwise it sits on blocks. I've got 5 days to find a battery, install it, and enjoy the car for a while before it goes back into storage for another year. I can find a few batteries online that would work (none from local retailers), but I don't have time to wait for shipping.

Does anybody know of a compatible battery that is sold at the local chain auto parts stores? Ican't be the only one with this problem. I'm in the Denver Metro area so I've got access to about all of them.

Thanks.

This chart is a goldmine. Read it carefully and look at the drawings on page 2.
You can find a similary sized battery and may just need to change the way it is secured.

I too am in the midst of this. I am attempting to find a replacement for a Group 55.

I purchased one for my ERA at Kragen Auto. I believe the brand was Autolite. They are getting pretty hard to find with the hold down lip at the end. One of these days I'll probably end up modifying the hold down bracket but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Maybe you can get an optima battery and mount it with a ratchet strap for now so you can use it for the one day. When I built my e.r.a. I bought the trunk mount setup from them, $125 I think. Came with cables, all ends already on and a keyed shut-off switch. Could be a good winter project.
