Clutch engagement/disengagement is rough
 
I just got 755 and put some miles on it the last week.

When I engage or disengage the clutch the movement seems to require quite a bit of effort and it has "rough" spots at some places in the travel.

I noticed the slave cylinder shaft was at an angle coming out of the slave cylinder (as much as 10 degrees). As a test, I put a washer between the slave cylinder bracket and the engine block. I also rotated the bracket a few degrees and managed to get the slave cylinder positioned so the shaft was coming out mostly straight. It did improve the feel and make the effort less, but there is still a "rough" spot in the travel.

I also lubed the pocket on the clutch fork where the slave cylinder shaft pushes.

Any suggestions on how to improve this situation or is it normal?

I had a previous ERA and the clutch was as smooth as butter and required much less effort.

If it has been operating at an acute angle there is probably a ridge that has been worn by the piston within the slave cylinder causing the roughnes you are experiencing. Get a rebuild kit for the slave and hone it smooth and straight.

Proper alignment is critical. Check the ERA manual for the discussion on the need for an aluminum spacer on the slave. You need that with some pressure plates. Here's a shot of mine, and I use a Centerforce PP.

I spent some time shiming the slave cylinder to make the rod come out perfectly straight. The clutch feels pretty good now.
