Max Rear Tire Size?

I will be buying new tires for ERA #463................currently running 295's in the rear....................what is the max rear tire size that I can run in the rear without rubbing on anything?? Would like a little more tire on the ground to hold down my 'cammer' engine.

Instead of increasing the tire size, consider going to a stickier tire like the Avons.

I would recommend going to a stickier tire as well if traction is a problem for you. What brand are you running now?

335/35 R 17" if the body as the body inserts behind the seat

Cammer Not sure what you are going to do with car but I have been running 355/35 R 17" Pilots for the last 8 years. There are 2 small inserts to the body that are needed to clear. I couple of the guys are running AVON's and very happy with them. One thing is the spring rates increased and shocks have a more adjustable setting? Is the motor all Aluminum? Does the car have front and rear sway bars? Alignment of the rearend and thrust angle also important to the car going in a straight line. Tire pressures beening even in the back end. I am looking at Nitto's 05N tires next. 200 wear. 315/35 R 17" Even with the autocross setup, I am not using all the tire on the road. About a 1" per side has little to no contact. I pickup rubber balls from the track.
The rest depends on weather you are going to drag race the car, autocross, street cruising or roadrace. 2 different suspension setups would be wanted to get more and best out of the car.

I looked at your car in your photo area and that engine looks better than awesome. I'll assume you don't intend to race it, just hook up better on the street. I would not go with 17" rims, as that would ruin the look of your Cobra. I use Kuhmo tires (recommended size) on both my ERA Cobra and BMW M3, and have no issues with them hooking up, although I expect you have tons more torque in that cammer than I have. Yokohamas are great too, thay just wear out fast. Watch out for too much traction (with racing tires), which may cause you to break driveline parts. Better to smoke 'em a little than to bend or break expensive driveshafts and halfshafts. Removing/disconnecting the rear sway bar will soften up the rear suspension, which helps out too (unless it's a track car). Good luck.

ERA 745 with New Nitto NT05's

Rick Lake, Santa stopped by this week on his way to NJ :D My 17x9 and 17x11 PSE rims came in. Took about 6 weeks for Phil to get them done. I went with PSE instead of Vintage because Vintage only goes to 17x8.5 and 17x10.5 and that is .5 inch too narrow according to Nitto for these tires. These are the 275/40-17 and 315/35-17. Body is standing a little too tall .. I haven't lowered it from the Billboard stance and these tires are 1 in less diameter at 25.6 in.

Dee, you didn't say if you were sticking with the 15 in rims, but if so, the Goodyear Billboards from Roger Kraus are very soft like the Avons .. but much cheaper. Problem is, they are not DOT, and being bias ply, if you get a nail in them, most places won't patch them.

I think 295/50 is the biggest tire you can get in a 15 in. That is why I ordered the 17 in rims. Anyway, I want to warn you about trying to get that monster to hook up .. it will make shrapnel out of your diffy. I went through that with the Billboards on a hot July day on some fresh blacktop;):eek::CRY:
