On the other hand, if you cover it up properly you will never be put in a position of having to remember it at all.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the rush?? It is the beginning of winter, you won't be on the road for months. Plenty of time to market your collection and find your perfect FIA. As you know from your own experience, these cars don't exactly fly off the shelf in this market.

Exactly, one reason why I took 140+ photographs of the collection this morning. Now the fun of resizing the pictures for posting up on Ebay (not one auction at a time, but one auction for everything). Now the fun of cataloging and writing a listing of what is for sale.

Can someone with an ERA 289FIA duplicate this picture? (this is taken across the footbox, but not at the pedal face, more at the bottom, with the tape measure across the brake/clutch fulcrum.

New to this, but as others have said in the past, I've been hiding in the weeds for years and was pleased to acquire Bill's cobra from him. He was a good guy to deal with and I love the car. As I'ved told my kids, your cars should make you smile when you see them, even if you are not going out with them at that monment. I'm looking forward to years of smiles.

Got about as close to the fulcrum as I could and looks like I measure about 1/2" or better more bigger than the dimension you post. The only thing I couldn't duplicate is the radio speaker...but it looks like I did pretty good with the upside down tape measure... must have gotten it at Harbor Freight just like me....

That FIA in NJ doesn't look that bad and for the costs needed it to get it "right" you would be ahead wouldn't you. How does the state know what you buy a car for if it's a cash sell? Just curious. It's just his nephew who is selling it, to me all I can say is "big deal". Of course they do not mention the 11:1 compression motor requires more than pump gas

Now, if they were down in the mid 40's, they would have me as a buyer banging on their door today.

That is what I heard, however, I also heard the buyer is "suspect" and potentially expect the car to show up back on the same "dealer circuit" in the near future.

Easy to follow if so. However the car had a reserve and it was pulled. No reason to pull your reserve to buy your own car back.

Only to "make a sale" and "set a benchmark". I cannot tell you how many times this happens with no logical reason as to why. In the last 19 years of my time at these types of auctions, I can document a large percentage of "specialty cars" which have ended up back with their original owner/sellers even after dropping the reserve (IE: their man was the top bidder, they dropped the reserve in hopes of him(her) getting out bid and moving the car to a higher price point).......If memory serves me correctly, I do believe this will not be the first time this has appeared to happen with this particular car. Again why is anyones guess as there is no real logic behind throwing away money................
