Mufflers

I plan on installing undercar exhaust with side exit on my FIA. The space where the muffler fits is small (13" x 9"). I found two mufflers that would fit. A turbo style by Cherry Bomb and perforated tube/packed style by Magnaflow. Which of the two would be quieter?

louder out the back might be better then resonating under your arse.

True, ERA designed rear suspension supposedly does not have the space available for rear exhaust.

Look at Spintek mufflers. They make a low profile (only 3 in. thick) model that fits in the space. I don't have my printouts with me but for the model number but this is what I plan to use for undercar exhaust.

I don't know this for a fact but the Spintek muffler may be quieter than the others. It looks like a conventional baffled muffler. But again I haven't actually used them yet.

Any under-car muffler must be short enough to fit between the outriggers - about 14.9" between them.

wolf k,

I use the Spintechs too. Here's their web site: SpinTech Performance Mufflers - Mufflers - SpinTech Performance Mufflers

I bought an off-the-shelf size from them at first; turned out to rattle because I didn't allow for movement of the mufflers while the car is moving. It's been a long time (eight years?) but I dimly remember needing at least 3/4" clearance between the muffler and anything else solid. A bit more is probably better.

When I got my second set, Spintech made them to my specs for a very reasonable extra fee, and they're still doing a great job eight years and 27K miles later.

Mine exits before the rear tires so it's still noisy, but it's a lovely sound!

FWIW , I have had the Spintech mufflers on my F150 , 5.4 L engine for about 5 years. They have a great sound , but aren`t cop callers . WOT is deep and loud , but not objectionable .... much better than Flowmasters and nowhere as loud . Should sound good on a Cobra .

Spintech did not have any off the shelf that would fit, decided to go with Magnaflow.
