ERA Under Car Exhaust - Tail Pipe Exit Before Rear Tire
Mocking up how the tail pipe will look on my FIA. Using the ERA supplied under car setup, with tail pipe exit before the rear tire.
With the car on the ground, set the tail pipe in the approximate location it will be when attached to the muffler. The tail pipe angle and length set by ERA. The portion of the tail pipe that connects to the muffler will need to be trimmed. My plan is to keep the tail pipe tip cut square to the pipe (not a slant cut) and to have the entire system flat black. Questions: - Anyone have photos of their car with a similar setup ? - How far to let the tail pipe tip extend from the body ? - Tail pipe attachment to the frame (photos) ? Photos, comments & suggestions welcome. Thanks! I couldn't find any pictures of an FIA, but here's a here. I would move the pipe a couple of inches forward and shorten it a bit.

See photos of ERA2041 in the ERA Image Gallery on their website, Era Replica Automobiles - Makers of the 427, 289FIA, and GT40 replicas. It is in the FIA gallery, 4th row down, second from left, blue FIA car. Pipes were installed at ERA.

On 2136 I will be using the ERA under car exhaust set up, but with the short tail pipe that attaches to the muffler, then quickly turns out ahead of the rear wheel, versus going up and over the axle to the rear bumper. More of a 'street' setup that the FIA race pipes. |

Just had an interesting troll through the ERA galleries. Your exhaust will definitely non-typical! ERA 427 592 looks similar to what you're trying to achieve, but there's not much detail in the gallery. see #592 With undercar exhaust, front exit Cheers, Glen (and good luck with the exhaust!) |

Good job trolling for photos. You are right about the exhaust set up, it will be very non typical. The setup on #592 is probably pretty close to what I will wind up with. Wolf's custom made stainless steel setup on 2139 is very nicely hand crafted, and I don't have the tools or talent to duplicate it. My first go at the exhaust will be with the ERA primary pipes (headers), head pipe & short tail pipe. I bought the dynomax muffles they recommend along with some stainless steel muffler clamps. Once everything is fitted, will get the pipes ceramic coated. We'll see how the sound is, looking for quieter that the FIA race pipes, but louder than the standard under car setup. |

I think we may have discussed this a while back, but I did the same with the exhaust on 2062, and eventually ended up cutting an additional 2 1/2" inches off the ends. My gallery pics show the original set up, and my latest picture addition to the gallery shows the current setup (from afar). Gary |

Look at the video just posted on the Columbus circle run of the loud 289 he's got the same exaust you are referring to
I have seen the car in person on many ocasions and the exaust is a neat set up |
You should leave it sticking out so you can burn your leg on it like the rest of us. LOL!!
