Fuel Pump Location
 
I plan on mounting a Weldon A-600-A fuel pump on an aluminum panel directly above the gas tank. This locates the fuel pump about 18" behind my head. Is noise level going to be a problem?

I don't have any experience with that pump, but it's described as "extremely quiet". When installing an electric pump, we prefer to mount it behind the left rear tire splash panel, on the side or under the frame rail. That way there are no fuel hoses/connections in the trunk. No matter what, I would use rubber mounts to isolate the pump from the chassis.

That is a very quiet pump and you will not hear it over your engine. It also is self-priming which gives you a lot of mounting options. I would also try to keep it out of the trunk and away from the battery.

Noise shouldn't be a problem. My Holley is noisier than your pump. Been perfect for two decades. Don't skip that filter and use stainless lines and flair fittings.
Or just follow Bob's method.

I have a Holley (7lb.) electric fuel pump mounted above the (center) front of the fuel tank which bolts thru into the rear of the trunk and the bolts are hidden by the carpet. A rubber pad is between the pump bracket. I just replaced it after 21 faithful years of use. You only hear it faintly prior to starting the motor, but that helps you know its working !

I thought the fuel pump had to be mounted even with/or lower than the tank to eliminate priming problems. (similar to a swimming pool pump)

It's desirable (especially in big flow and nitrous engines) but not vital to most.
Mine is mounted slightly above the tank out line and has a filter in front of it. A simple 7 psi Holley has no trouble pulling that.

I like your suggestion to mount a fuel pump to the frame behind the left rear wheel splash panel. What is the best way to secure to the ERA frame? Drill and tap holes? It is very tight for a drill. Maybe need to use a 90 degree drill head??? Thanks in advance

If you can make an intermediate right-angle bracket, you can pick up two or three of the fuel tank mounting holes. Some pumps might even be OK if the bracket is flat.
