Upgrade for standard ERA electric horns
I've got the standard electric horns provided by ERA. Frankly, I'm not sure they make enough noise to be heard above the engine. Has anyone a suggestion for a more aggressive, high volume horn with out going to a giant air horn like on an 18 wheeler?

the simple way...move the horn...!

I relocated the drivers side horn to the front of the radiator bulkhead. This was the result of using one of the horn "threadserts" to mount the bracket for the oil thermostat I added. The wiring harness was just long enough. Doubt if this will result in Diesel Locomotive type notes...that would be interesting...but it HAS to be louder than hiding the horns behind the radiator shroud bulkhead...! If you live in the slushy, frozen, salt ridden part of the world...you know, east of LosAngeles...you run the risk of having it plugged with a cinder loaded ice-ball... Whatever you use just put it in front of the radiator bulkhead, it has to help. Pete |

Get a set of aftermarket FIAMM Highway Blasters at PeP Boys or Amazon. $20 and they HONK! Bolt on replacement for stock. Get a High Note and a Low Note, not two of the same thing:

One of my buddies and I were spiritedly returning from lunch, the Cobra fueling ample amounts of testosterone and adrenaline, and he asked, "Does this thing have a horn?"
I replied, "Sure!" and hit my horn button for the Volkswagenesque "beep beep". He stared silently forward, then turned to me and sternly admonished, "Don't ever do that again!" Yeah, you've got to ditch those VW horns. I got my Hella dual trumpet horns from summitracing.com. They sound like a "regular car" instead of the VW horns. Much improvement. It's not loud but
ERA 778 Any thought of going with the BEEP-BEEP Roadrunner horn?? That will scare the heck out of the you know what to the guy next to you. I think nascar should also add them to their cars. With all the bad accidents on the super speed ways, maybe this would help keep the cars in the lanes and stop the cutting off of each other.:LOL: Problem is they don't work in NJ or NY:( Rick L.

Rick: I think the Roadrunner idea is great! However, the original horns remind me too much of them already! Maybe if I unhooked one of them the sound would exactly like the RR! |
I replaced mine with the Hella Supertones. You can definately hear them.

Thought I'd finish this topic. I installed the Hella Trumpets this week. They fit perfectly, no issues; mounting bolts and connectors exactly the same. Soud is MUCH better: louder and more agressive - just what i was looking for at about $30!!!
