Windshield Top Attachment
I am working on installing the top, and it looks like either the latch part is too short, or the windshield is drilled in the wrong spot (where the stationary brackets attach). The black frame is for the top to attach to. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...a_work_069.JPG.
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._work_0701.JPG You can see that only 1 screw hole would be attaching to the windshield frame. Can anyone confirm/deny which is the issue? Thanks, Jim |
Here is a shot of my top, fastened down. Would a different shot of the latch or top help you?

Thanks Pat.
What I need to see is covered by material. It appears my rails are too short (part that goes over the windshield, as the latch would only get 1 screw into the rail instead of 2. That's what I was trying to ask, is 1 enough, or do I need either a longer latch or move the attachment point up. At this point, I will probably fabricate a longer attachment so I can use the existing screw holes. Actually, can you measure the distance (this may be a PITA) from the end of the windshield channel to the screw holes on the stationary latch bracket? That way I can compare measurements and see if I'm hallucinating or if the channels are too short.... Thanks, Jim |
Here's a shot of the latch. I don't see how your windshield could be drilled wrong -- it would make the wind wings look really, really wrong. And both screws in to the bowed front frame that the top goes on.

The problem I have is I think the top channels are too short. In this pic (best I could do by myself!) you can see that with the latch closed, only 1 screw will go into the channel. If i were to put 2 into the channel, it would not latch....

And you got all of it from ERA? I'd give Jack (I think Jack does the top fits) a call and see if there's some sort of trick (there usually is).
|
I got it with 154, will have to ask ERA if Ernie bought it there.
That's tomorrow, thanks for your help. Jim |
My top looks like Patricks. Your channels look too short.
I purchased a top that was fitted to an older ERA (I think in the 500s). The channels were about 1" too long for 755. I shortened them and all was good. I think ERA changed something and they sent you parts for a newer car and you need parts for an older car. John |
That's about how much they are short - 1"
Thank you, Jim |
