ERA 721 Finally Completed (minus the horn)

1 Attachment(s)
Hey Guys,

We finally finished car 721 last night and fired it off for the first time. What a great night. I have documented the full build with pictures that I will upload over the weekend. I really look forward to meeting a lot of the people on here at shows and cruises. The one last item I can't seem to get to work is the horn, I am getting no power to the switch or relay. If anyone has an idea what to look for that would be great.

Thanks

Jay

What type of relay do you have? I had a problem with my horn at first, but figured out that I needed to ground the steering column where the button made contact. That's how my relay works - ground switching contact relay.

For troubleshooting I would suggest making sure you have power to the relay first, then test grounding the relay to listen for the contact switching (assuming it's that type of relay). You should actually hear the contacts switch. Also, I had to search for a wiring diagram for my particular relay to make sure it was wired correctly.

If you can figure out what type of relay it is, it'll be easier to assist you, I think.

It looks like you have a scratch on the driver's side rear quarter panel. Hard to tell. Maybe if the back staircase light bulb would have been one of those old incandescent bulbs instead of a modern LED.

Welcome to Club Cobra. Feel free to insult Patrick, another ERA owner around here. ;)

We need more pictures. I need something to keep my morale up. :)

If everything else checks out, look at the pin connection between the 12-pole connectors 54-to-27.

It's a highly over rated piece of equipment anyway.;)

Not sure if this will help, when I put my dash in, I crimped my wiring harness...I did not realize this issue till I found my high beams not working. I had to remove the dash, move the harness around a bit, and all worked well. Perhaps the harness behind the dash is crimped?

I was able to get the horn fixed, the car had a dash wired for a heater which we are not using so had a few wires wrong. Got to drive it this past weekend, what a great car, drives great. Really looking forward to some fall drives.
