only on the fiberglass
Did NOT use undercoating on any of the aluminum.
DID undercoat the underside of the front and rear fenders. More uniform appearance and maybe a sealed surface is little easier to clean with a hose to remove mud or dust. DO undercoat the trunk tub...! Mask all the holes so it doesn't mist up into the trunk. The trunk hangs down and would stand out if its not black. Would hate to try to paint or coat the glass once once its dirty. After 16,000+ miles on California roads ( not much sand or cinder ) no significant wear of the undercoated surface. Get more paint chips at the track than I ever got on the road due to debris on the track. Do clear film protect the rear flares or tape them up at the track. Pete |
The rear tub of the 289 is visible and white. The 427 has a different design and you don't see the bottom of the tub. The rearmost part on the bottom is the gas tank, and I think it's aluminum.

No undercoat, no problems (ERA 766)

Lippy,
The ERA manual has a paragraph about undercoating and the coremat in the fenders. Bottom line is it is a personal preference and you don't need to worry about damaging the fenders. If you like the look of the aluminum, leave it alone. I undercoated mine because I wanted the fender wells to be blacked out. Personal preference. Regards, Kevin |
