Tires for 289 FIA
Bob,
I was just wondering what the biggest size tire I could fit on the 15" PS Engineering wheels on the 289 was without any chance of the tires hitting the fenders. Thanks, Glenn Davis jr |
I'm running 8.00x15 rear and 6.00x15 front Blue Streaks with 550 and 350 lb springs, with the car about 1" lower than normal. I only race the car and have a bit of rubbing in the rear both on the inner and outer finder....but not enough to change anything. I do have a bit different back spacing than what ERA uses...about 1/2" difference if I remember correctly....don't remember what it is...or which way its different from ERA....I can check if you like..

My original recommendations were very conservative. We've found that the car will fit the same tire sizes as the 427: 235-60 and 295-50-15. No rubbing that I've heard of.

I am running BFG "Euro" (H rated) T/A's on my ERA FIA; P265/50x15 on 8.0" PS Engineering wheels on the front, P305/50x15 on 10.0" PS Engineering wheels on the rear.
Haven't encountered any rubbing problems yet, in street or track use. 'Course I'm probably not running as hard on the track as Murt and Mort - those guys are animals...... :3DSMILE: regards, cobrajeff |

Could you do me a favor and measure the diameter of the 305's? - or better yet the circumference? 305's have theoretically been too large (for the 427SC), but some brands run smaller than the numbers would indicate. Thanks :) |

Euro T/A's

According to my BFG specs, the 305/50x15 Euro T/A's have 27.1" OD, 12.4" section, and 10.3" tread on a 9.5" rim. The 265's I have on front are: 25.5" OD, 10.9" sec, 8.6" tread on 8.5" rim. The 295 that a lot of guys run ilo the 305, is: 26.7"OD, 12.2" sec, 9.5" tread on 9.5" rim. For reference, Vintage Blue Streaks are: 6.00-15 has 25.5"OD, 10.6" sec, 8.4" tread on 8.0" rim; 8.00-15 has 26.8"OD, 13.2" sec, 10.1" tread on 10.0" rim. Then there are "Turk's tires" - the ones that REALLY make a Cobra look mean: Goodyear Sports Car Special T/A Rain: 9.00-15 (1906) has 24.9"OD, 10.9" sec, 8.6" tread on 8.5" rim; 10.0-15 (1907) has 26.8"OD, 13.0" sec, 10.2" tread on 10.0" rim. I wish I could afford to own all of the ERAs at one time, but the reality is that over the course of the past 16 years I have owned them one at a time... cheaper to change cars than wives* To make a long story short, I don't have a trophy garage where I can stack up all my projects, close by, in one place. ...the FIA lives in a trailer approx. 75 miles away... Can't imagine how you racked up so many miles...lets see if I got the math right on this. Push car backwards from trailer to tent = "X" miles.....push car forwards from tent to trailer = "Y" miles. (X)+(Y)+(p)(W)= total miles Where "W" = distance from tent to ice cream stand back to tent "p" = number of trips Assumption: Path to and from trailer is the same Given: 1) tent and trailer are always in the same paddock 2) ice cream stand is always in paddock 3) largest trace paddock (Elkhart 4 miles) 4) total miles = 110 miles Solve for "p"........allowing for round off error that's 27 trips in 1.5 years....or 18 trips per year. You and Pedro gotta start walking at least some of the time....the ole car will be worn out before you know it. Good thing about the future MkII....more aero....easier to push |

I've been taking his car out on weekends to deliver pizza. That's worth about 100 miles. The rest of the miles are us pushing the car on and off the trailer. |

Yer correct about the need for the more walking part (and not so wrong on the other part as well). Took a little trip out to Dearborn a week or so a go with Pedro and "the Jaquester" to see the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village complex.* By the end of the first half day of walking my legs were shot. My feet felt as though someone was sticking knives into my soles. Could barely make it through the Dearborn Mall (remember SAAC convention circa 1986?) on Peter's search for icecream that evening (following a major mammal feed at a local steak place). It was rough... the competitive eating events for which Mr. Portante has become justly famous can leave one gasping for air. Morty *Great time to go: no crowds had the place to our selves, had a heart to heart talk (we were trying to get the "real" dirt on Henry FordI) with one of the fabricators in the tin shop, who said her other job there was as a "hooker"... even Steve was speachless at that. |
