Rear Suspension Squeak

Bob,

My car has the ERA rear and it squeaks quite a bit. I had the same issue late last year, so I disassembled the lower control arms at the hub carriers and greased the pivot points with grease.

All was good until this week. I took the car on a 1,500 mile trip and noticed the squeaking had returned.

Are there any secrets to keeping the lower pivot points quiet? What about drilling the lower control arms for grease fittings?

What kind of grease? The bushing manufacturer recommends silicone.

You could drill and tap the bearing housings (1/4-28 I believe) for standard grease fittings. If you do that, I would cut grooves in the bushings for better distribution.

I used Mobil 1 standard bearing grease. I will pull it apart and clean and then put some energy suspension silicone on and see how it holds up.

John
