Reverse Lockout Cable

Ok so I have a Tremec 3550 and the reverse lockout cable. I know this is a dumb question, but what is the function of this? In a 5 speed it would be pretty hard to miss a 4th gear and hit reverse. Am I missing something?

The T handle on the shift lever is there for looks only. It has no function other than making the car look original.

I believe its there to cut out the starter unless its in neutral

Thanks Gents. Just wanted to make sure that had nothing to do with getting into reverse. My idle is a little high and that make reverse a little hard even when going to 3rd first.

It is to prevent accidental "reverse" when downshifting from 5th to 4th.

Lots of other boxes have the same function.

Generally, you can select reverse from any other gear except 5th.
