That should make one GT-40 VERY happy!!!

I've always been curious about the rear carbs on these engines; doesn't the proximity of the header tubes affect the rear carb mix more than at the front of the engine?

Also, is that a "T" oil pan? I thought FE's didn't fit in ERA GT40's without drysumps.

Just curious.

Toivo,

We typically use an Aviaid "GT40" pan - a dry sump is not necessary.

We will add a cold air box that seals against the rear body inner panels and is fed by the fresh air intakes.

Toivo 01-24-2002 05:52 AM

Does the Aviad have all the bosses then?
Or do you add those?

All this time pulling together a dry sump system (see parts wanted section).

Whoops! My (extreme) bad! **) The 427 does require a dry sump. My initial thought was that the engine was an exotic small block. Don't throw anything away!

Dry Sump

Bob

ERA dry sump system looks different than the one from Dove which uses a 2 piece cast Aluminum oil pan (part# XPxxx) and an external scavenge pump and an internal pressure pump.

What is the cost for the system.

Toivo 01-24-2002 10:46 AM

It's my understanding that Dove's system is vaporware and some old pictures. I believe they wanted $3,500 for their system if/and when it was available.

The picture on the ERA site is of the actual Ford setup which requires a special front cover over the pump drive.

The system I've been acquiring uses an external pump, driven like most current aftermarket systems; in fact I could probably just adapt a brand new pump onto the mounting brackets. The pan though has all the bosses of the system shown on ERA's site. The pan itself is pretty heavy-weight cast aluminum, I'm supposing to help absorb some of the stresses which may be placed on it in its position.

I've ordered one from them in 1994!!... and still waiting!! Back in 1993 or there about Dove manufactured about 6 and the price was $2800. Dove's system requires a special front cover too. Should have ordered 1 when I bought their expansion tank.

Are you building a GT40?? What manufacturer?

Toivo 01-24-2002 11:48 AM

I hope you didn't send them money with the order.

Dove seems to be notorious for making people wait, though 7+ years may be a record.

I'm not currently building a GT40. How about you? What were you going to use the Dove dry sump in/on/for?

Ken Oikawa 01-24-2002 12:11 PM

Toivo

No I didn't send them any money order, but they requested my MC#!! So far, Dove has not put a charge on my MC.

I thought I would install a dry sump system for my replicar. I have a Bulter build dry sump tank, now just waiting for a pump and a pan. At present I'm using a cast aluminum T-pan from Branda.

Jim Holden 01-29-2002 08:29 PM

It is my understanding that the dry-sump was also on some 427CO used in boats. So check out them old Chris Crafts.

I picked up one at a spring Carlisle several years back for $350.00. The guy didn't know (or maybe didn't care) what he had.

There was also a "CanAm" style of dry sump which has a "V" shaped pan with external drive. My understanding is that is the type being offered (sorta) by Dove.

I do note that the MkII at the Indy Museum has a wet sump on it. It appears that the wet sump is only marginally deeper than the dry sump, however, on the MkII there were bosses on the rear of the sump for bolts that fasten through bushings in the frame to the gearbox. Right Bob?

So, those dry-sumps are out there...

Now if I can just get Bob motivated on the gear box project...
