Broken Side Pipe Hanger

I was driving along this morning and heard an odd noise, like a bearing going out. I pulled into a parking lot and noticed the noise did not stop when the car was stationary. I walked around to the passenger side and my side pipe was hanging down because the rubber hanger had broken. I was close to home so I gently drove it home.

I don't have a piece of rubber to make a new one, so was thinking about leather or aluminum.

My question is would aluminum be a bad choice? What do you guys think?

The new hanger is installed and appears to be ok. The Walker unit is thinner than those supplied by ERA but they look to have more internal reinforcement.
