Dear Psycopath
For the record, Superformance have been importing 289/427, Daytona and GT40 into the UK for many years! Hardly 'just starting'.... Contact the official UK importer: www.lemanscoupes.com and ask for Ollie. (No affiliation with LM Coupes apart from photographing their cars, kicking the tyres and drinking their tea) |

OK, thanks Bob. I figured with the short drive shaft, that much lateral movement would be an issue.

Importing a RHD ERA into the UK (I assume) would be fraught with major issues all of which would relate to SVA Regs. Its tough enough for the UK Manufacturers to keep a handle on the Technical requirements of SVA so you would have to identify the issues in advance and purchase a car minus all the bits that would fail the SVA Test (which would be many). Its not impossible but would be very time consuming in my view. Regards |

Thank you everybody for you kind answers to my question. It is very much appreciated. I am still very keen to purchase and get built a RHD ERA but am a little concerned about the SVA regulations as was brought up by crendonman427sc for new imported cars into the UK. It must be possible as Superformance do it.

Importing an ERA into the UK would require going through IVA. Not impossible but there are numerous 'issues' to address. It takes time, money, patience, more money and the hide of a rhino.
FYI: Superformance do not import cars into the UK from the USA. |

Bill S. PS: That is about as close as I get to doing any business in Spain, although I have been chasing an exported 66 GT350 Shelby fastback there for almost 30 years :p |

Thank you for all the comments everybody. 1ntCobra, that is something that could be looked into. Appreciated.
Buzz, I always thought the ERA replica was a more preferred shape for me as the Superformance replica is slightly different. Am I correct in thinking this???? |
I've been told the Fiesta has been sold :D

Superformance on the other hand, originally based their 427 shape on the Contemporary Cobra replica body, which - like ERA - was also splashed directly from an original Cobra and widely touted (even today) as "the most accurate Cobra replica". They were indeed fine replicas, but during the production cycle, Contemporary decided to correct the side to side asymmetry by raising the rear fender on one side to match the other. They then had to lower the rocker area below the doors and adjust the wheel openings as the new shape looked awkward with lower profile rear tires. As a result, Superformance (and quite a few other brands who copied Contemporary) inherited a different looking body with a higher, chunkier profile and stance. They recognised their mistake and did it differently with their 289 replicas. They really are beautifully done and there are others here who can speak with authority on the quality and accuracy of SPF's MKll cars. |
One other point about accuracy to the originals is in the chassis details. ERA builds both (big and small block) models on a rectangular tube chassis with a coilover suspension. For their MK ll, SPF uses an authentic round tube chassis with the correct transverse leaf suspension. The body shape is beautifully executed and if superficial appearance is a primary driving factor, it certainly holds its own against the ERA. I suppose it would boil down to whether folks feel the authenticity factor is worth the relatively reasonable bump in the sticker price for the SPF.
In your particular circumstance, I would imagine that after getting an ERA through all of the regulatory hoops with the additional expense of a right hand drive conversion on top of that; you'd come out way ahead going with the already available Superformance offering. |
Perhaps SPF will be quicker to turn around the delivery as well since they've done them before.
|
SPF small block cars do seem exceptionally nice and accurate.

Psycho - for the record Hawk are no longer associated with Kirkham (or ERA etc etc) so would strongly advise against contacting them on that subject.
However, do ask whether they can supply an ali-body/chassis for a 289 or FIA. And should you have ever, like me, coveted a Lancia Stratos..... :) |
