TKX transmission

I want to put the TKX in ERA 492 and there appear to be several options. Should I spend $1,000 on a new Quicktime bell housing or get one of the kits that comes with an adapter plate for my Lakewood bellhousing. My main concerns are to get the stick in the right place and the transmission mounts to line up properly. Also, which clutch do you recommend and should I consider switching to a hydraulic TO bearing setup?

Thanks!

When I changed out my 4 speeds to tkx transmission. The location wasn't the problem. The emergency brake assembly was in the way, when you are trying to put the transmission into pilot bearing. That was my biggest challenge.

I didn’t realize QuickTime Bell housings are that expensive now - but I used the non-SFI rated one that provides more ground clearance in my car. The McLeod RST twin disc clutches are really nice and light pressure but expensive. If you go to a hydraulic throw out bearing it’s a good idea to rig up a clutch pedal stop to prevent over-extending the TO bearing and failing it.

A TKX is a direct replacement for a TKO.

Get the same input shaft length and OD and you will be happy.

Use your current bell.

Modern Driveline has a special version of the TKX for a Cobra. Small and big block versions. Bolt right up to replace a T5.
