Tire Info

I did a little searching for the latest tires in the "approved (15 inch) sizes". If you have any additions, I'll add them in. Any tire must be available in the appropriate sizes for both the front and rear. I'd rather not mix brands.

Vitour Galaxy R1. I put them on 838 and they seem like a good tire.

Ordered the Galaxy tires online from Performance Plus.

They are actually speed rated higher than typical 15” choices.

Thanks. I'll add it to the page.

They didn't make it easy to determine whether both the sizes were available...

Not sure on its Performance, but size wise they fit the specs

Cooper Cobras work just fine for the street, and "some" HPDE track time.

Tire Rack has them in stock
  • Size: P235/60R15 98T
  • Style: Raised White Letter
  • UTQG: 440 AB

  • Size: P295/50R15 105S
  • Style: Raised White Letter
  • UTQG: 440 AC

I run the Mickey Thompson STs, although in different sizes on my ERA. They are basically the same tire as the Cooper Cobra and are some of the best tires I’ve used. If the Cobra is available in the ERA recommended sizes, I would think the MT STs are also (but not sure).

Does anyone know what the "Rating" is in the next to last column of the link in the first post of this thread? I searched online but couldn't find anything that made sense.

That is the UTOG rating. The number is the tire life divided by 100 and the letters are for the traction and temperature ratings.

Both the Firestone and the Tire rack websites seem to say that the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tire is not made in 15". Maybe I missed something?

Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) Standards

Thx, patrick, I figured it was something like that but without knowing what MLA to add in the search I was coming up with no usable hits. TireRack has a good definition of UTOG

Well...

I think Firestone quit making the Firehawk Indy 500 in 15" sizes quite some time ago...
