Wiring Harness Connectors
Bob,
It seems that the multi-connector that connects harness B to E is the cause of all my electrical problems. Driving home this evening, whenever I turned on the light switch on the dash, the car would die. Turn off the light, car runs. So I made a mad dash for home (without lights). Anyway made it home in one piece and started to check for loose wires. It seems if I move the white multi-connector around under the dash, I can get the lights to come on and off. When I look inside the connector everything looks ok. Is there another type connector that would make a tight connection when put together? There are numerous protrusions on this connector, but nothing to really "pull" it together. Thanks, Dave |
Dave,
This sounds to me like a problem with the ignition switch or the high-amp plug connector to the ammeter. Do you have a voltmeter handy? |
Bob,
Don't have a voltmeter, but I will get one. I am pretty sure it is not the ignition switch though. It seems to be coming in / around that harness connector. Any way to diagnose this without waiting for it to fail again? |
Dave,
If it's at the connector, the only way to check is by a close visual inspection of the pins in each one. Make sure that each pin is sticking up even with the others and hasn't been distorted somehow. Just for yucks, check the ground at the firewall, just under the starter solenoid. |
Bob,
Problem solved. The main ignition wire at the multi connector has a bad pin. Jumped the wire past the connector and put a fuse link in since we didn't have a pin tool. Thanks, DC |
