Please let Peter P know...

that "his" motor died.
The 428 he had his eye on from Joe at Danbury Comp
ate the cam gear and distributor gear monday night.

Not a pretty sight. Very bad stuff.
I am trying to figure out what's next.
Will Joe help, or leave me high and dry.
I'll let ya know.

Todd,

I saw the other thread. Doug says he only sees 80+psi on on a very young Joe-engine on cold startup. 100 psi is too high, and may have been the cause of this. Was the oil pressure always this high?

In all the years we've been using Danbury Competition, I can't remember a failure. Joe is very careful and conservative.

Todd Hedges 08-29-2002 02:49 PM

Bob, the pressure would hit 100 when cool (50 to 60 C) and 3,500 rpms. The oil pressure always seemed high to me, but I thought it was intended to be a high pressure oil pump.

Todd:

My understanding is that High volume is the way to go, not high pressure... cripes, with high pressure you could (and apparently did) have a stroke.

Going to pull the motor out this Saturday.
Going to see if Joe can take a look next Saturday.
If I'm lucky and things work out I might be able to save some part of the Fall driving in New England.
I missed the LRP events. Darn!
Next year.

Todd:

Perhaps due to the weather the number of cars in the "shelby show" was down. Some interesting cars in the main show. We took Peter P.'s original, 35 year old, bona fide, the real deal, built by AC, financed by Ford and badged by Shelby, Cobra over. Folks came up and said "Gee, I thought this was an ERA." Response: "Peter worked hard to make it look like an ERA..." Of course it looked like an ERA; it was the car that Phil Gaudette used 22 years ago when the did Ol' ERA #1.

Jim,

Interesting. I am identifying my car at shows as an "Original ERA"
I built it from a roller, & if they don't like it, to bad.

I just can't wait to get it back on the road.

Looks like may of the fair weather cobra owners are bailing our on us.

Oh well.

How'd you get so many ERA's?
I'm trying to figure out how to graduate to a GT40.

Anyway Pete's car is two years older than I am and looks
like it's in better shape.

I haven't seen Pete in many weeks, too busy try to buy & sell
my house. What a nightmare that is.

Anyone living with RADON in the basement?

stush 09-05-2002 08:13 PM

If you live in CT, you have radon. The systems are not too costly to correct the problem and it is something that has to be done before a buyer will buy. Our last house had it and the owner had to correct it before we moved forward.

Todd:

Actually, I only have one ERA at a time... but they're cheaper to "trade in" than wives... (In that catagory, I'm hanging on to my "first".)

I always try to keep a deposit with Peter just so he'll take my phone calls.

You have verbalized what I have long felt: that I am the proud owner of an ERA, an incredible automobile in its own right!

Todd-
Any updates on the motor??

Mike

Todd Hedges 09-24-2002 06:09 PM

Nope, not yet.
I haven't pulled the engine yet.
For several weeks we were in the process of sell & buying a house.

Looks like I might under-take the task soon since there
are no prospects for a purchase.

I will keep ya up-dated though.

Thanks for the interest.
